Well, it sounds like it was very upsetting and a huge blow... of course you had ever right to be upset and depressed aftewards. You licked your wounds... and now you're back!

I DNF'd my race last month. It was my "A" race. I did the swim, but got nauseated on the bike and had to quit. I had trained all season to do well on that race. It was in my home town and I knew a lot of people there. So when I DNF'd I felt like a complete failure. It didn't make me feel any less of a failure when I ended up sick for 2 days, so I knew it was probably a virus that KO'd me and not a failing of my training.
I was so floored that I completely lost any interest in training or doing another tri this season. I couldn't look at the pool, my bike, anything.
Well, I finally found my motivation this week. I don't know where it came from but I'm soooo happy. I'm back to swimming 3 times a week. I even started doing drills again. I'm also back on the bike and running. I don't think I'll do another race this season, but I'm back to thinking about an HIM next year. Yay!
Now let's see if I can lose the 3 pounds I gained while I was moping...

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
I'm sorry about the DNF, but good for you for getting back at it!

OK, watch for it...big cliche coming...
...it's not how many times you fall (or get unmotivated) that counts...it's the number of times you get back up (and get going).
Yay!!!!
"The best rides are the ones where you bite off much more than you can chew, and live through it." ~ Doug Bradbury
Let's make this the cliche thread...
It's better to have tri'd and failed than to not have tri'd at all.
Followed up with...
You have to get back up on the horse.
I'm sorry you went through all that (the cliches that is)![]()
but I'm glad you're back on the road to your next tri. It's hard to get back into things. I had to take 2 years off of comp for various personal reasons and now I'm back and it feel great. So happy training and I hope you're back to your old self in no time!!

The only motivational cliche quote that comes to mind is from Homer Simpson and it's better left unsaid at this time.

Bring it on!! Sometimes the let down after a failed race is just what we need to get back out there and get angry enough to kick a little arse.
Glad you've found your mo-jo again!!!

I *did* finish my first triathlon last month, but the run went so poorly I felt like a failure. I moped and I lashed at a bit when people congratulated me for a job well done. It didn't feel well done to me! It took a week or two to be able to appreciate how far I had come and what I had accomplished. It also motivated me to greater things in my triathlon on Sunday. I'm glad that you've gotten past the disappointment and are looking towards a positive future of triathlon.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...
