New bike!!!

So, I went to my LBS last week and talked to someone about a new (my first) road bike. For those of you who haven't read my posts before, I have a Trek mountain bike and am somewhat intimidated by road bikes. Anyway, he said he was building some and showed me a few in the catalogue and that they would be ready this week. Well, I went in today and found one I really love!! Any opinions, suggestions? He also told me that a group of cyclers meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the LBS and ride anywhere from 25-50 miles! So, when I get my new bike, I’m going to meet up with them and try it! *so excited* It's an Allez Double. This is the 2007 model. I couldn't believe how light it was compared to my bike!! OMG! I really like the Roubaix Triple as well, but can’t spend the money…yikes!!

I too have had mountain bikes for years - and just recently bought myself a new road bike. I absolutely LOVE it! I signed up for "Team in Training" to do a century, learn some techniques, meet some other riders, and ultimately help a good cause. You might want to look into it.

Lovely bike I've got the Dolce Elite (just had it two weeks) and it is so light I can pick it up with one hand.

I did ride the bike. I haven’t bought it yet. I am going back tomorrow to ride it again and try on shoes. I want to be positive it is the bike for me before I make the commitment.

Good luck! Don't be afraid to make sure you like the fit before you decide, i.e., ask questions, ride it, try some others to compare. Rinse and repeat until you are sure! I came back a couple of times to try the one I eventually bought.

Beautiful bike--and you'll love the lighter weight and aerodynamic position in comparison to your mountain bike.

Definitely take some time to ride that gorgeous puppy to make sure it fits you properly and you'll be comfortable on it. I mean take it out and put it through its paces. Make sure the reach to the handlebars is OK so you won't have any neck/shoulder/back problems.

Does the LBS have a layaway program, so you could get the more expensive bike if you wanted to wait a little while? Just a thought.

The LBS does have a layaway program actually, and they have 0% financing if I want to finance the more expensive bike. However, I think I would feel guilty spending so much on myself! The Roubaix sure is a hot bike though!!

The first time I went to the LBS I was a little intimidated to ask questions, but the sales guy practically threw me on the bike! Then he told me some changes he would make to it so it fit me better. My sales guy is Zach, who I have known for a few years. He used to give my son guitar lessons, so I know and trust him. He has tuned my mountain bike for me in the past too!

Lovely bike and it sounds like you've found a good shop to work with.

My only comment is that it appears to have a double crank (hence the name Allez Double). It varies from rider to rider, but some women (myself included) benefit from having a triple crank because it provides smaller gears for climbing. I don't know how strong you are so I don't want to make any asusmptions, but I think it's something to consider. The Allez does come in a triple and according to Specialized's website, it costs the same. I would, in the very least, talk to Zach about the pros/cons of doubles versus triples and determine what would work best for you.

In any event, congrats on buying a road bike. They're tons of fun!
