Hi all, another newbie here. Except for some recreational rides, and three short-range triathlons about ten years ago, I have been out of biking until just recently. It didn't take too many miles to remember what I always loved about it.

    Real Name : Sue

Where do you live? West Milwaukee, WI

Explanation of your handle : Initials and beginning of last name

Explanation of your avatar : I'll get around to having one someday.

Age (general or specific) : Will be 45 this summer

    Occupation : Office Manager

Favorite Bike : My new Trek 2100

What's in your stable : Trek 2100, Old Bianchi (Around 1990), Timberlin Hybrid (Passed that down to my husband...it was one of my excuses to get a new bike)

Fastest speed on a road bike : Can't remember from my old biking days. With the new bike probably not much over 30mph....too many spring potholes and loose gravel around here to trust going much faster.

Another picture of yourself or your ride ? I like taking pictures, not being in them

What is the biggest lie you've ever told : Well.... the latest wasn't really a lie... I just didn't bother to correct my husband when he assumed that I spend around $300 on my bike. He's pretty much learned that if he probably doesn't really want to know the answer, he won't ask a direct question.

Most memorable moment on a bike? Quite a few years ago, I was about 5 miles into the 2nd day of a 2-Day 150 mile bike club ride when I took a left turn at the bottom of a long steep downhill, of course I hit a patch of gravel and ended up skidding through the intersection on my thigh. I wrapped it up with a towel and kept riding. It took a long time for the scars to go away and I still have a few black dots that show through my leg from gravel that I failed to clean out.

Most fun ever on a bike? Everytime I go out now I feel like I never want to stop, so I'm sure my most fun is yet to come. I have plans to do some great rides this summer.

I'm so lucky that my daughter's boyfriend is a mechanic at my LBS. With my new biking obsession it's better than having a doctor in the family. Luckily, he still has at least another year of college, so he won't be moving off to another career too soon. We drive my daughter nuts when we get into long bike gear discussions.

welcome to the board Jes and SJ. Nice to meet ya!....hope you have as much fun as we all obviously do and hope to see more of ya!

TL: I can't fault ya for laughing at me - can't ya just imagine my face when I read what Shews handle Really was?? I was laughing so hard I got the dogs all excited and the cats woke up!! *shaking head at self*
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

I've read all of this thread and just never took the time to sit down and write myown info. Cold and windy weather today - not much riding, so I guess I'll write about it instead.

    Real name: Annie

Where do you live? Dubuque, Iowa

Explanation of your handle: Its just me.......... part of my e-mail adddress, too.

Explanation of your avatar: It was easy to find. It looks fast and I LIKE fast.

Age (general or specific) . 50 and proud of it!!

Occupation: Manager of a wine shop/wine bar, "Grape Harbor."

Favorite bike: I love all my bikes! They all have their place in my heart.

What's in your stable? Trek Project One 5200 WSD- Metallic yellow paint and pinstripes. Trek 2100 - in the shop getting all new stuff. Trek WSD 6500 MTB. Hoping to add a touring bike to the group in the near future.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 55 mph riding down a CO mountain pass on Ride the Rockies. I don't remember which one it was.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I keep talking about getting a digital camera but haven't done it yet, Someday........... then I can post pics.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I'm not going to ride fast today. Just sorta toodle along.............."

Most memorable moment on my bike: Impossible to choose just one. I've biked for over 20 years now..........

Most fun ever had on a bike? With friends on RAGBRAI, maybe. Actually, same answer as above question. So much fun, so many times, so many rides. Road bike, mountain bike. It's all so good!

I got my day started with a laugh over this. How many times have I jollied my tired, achy body onto the bike with this lie?? And I always end up going as fast as I possibly can!

i could have sworn i posted on this one, but i guess not! oh well, need to procrastinate going to class

    Real name: Katherine

Where do you live? Ann Arbor, MI... originally from Chicago, where they ship me when school is not in session

Explanation of your handle: in drivers´ ed in high school, the jerk that i had for a teacher called all the girls either "honey" or "sweetheart" and the guys by some variation of their last name... from the death-look i gave him, i think he got the idea that calling me "honey" was a Bad Idea, and so called me Fultzie instead. and then my friends started using it, and it stuck.

Explanation of your avatar: UMich Cycling! yay!

Age (general or specific) : 20

Occupation: student, slacker, work at a rock climbing wall

Favorite bike: very hard to choose... i love all my bikes... but i´d go with my bianchi eros for now, since Fred was my first road bike... but i´m kind of lusting after an Indy Fab ti- crown jewel for the next baby.....

What's in your stable? 2000 Eros (Fred), 2004 Rockhopper (Lucy), Diamondback Wildwood (Chunkster)-- poor thing has been beaten to hell

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? about 50 mph... downhill... in a race two years ago... didn´t even know it until i checked my max speed later

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: um, probably something like "no, officer, i had no idea that was a one-way street" (i actually realized it after the fact, when the lights went on behind me... missed the sign, oops)

Most memorable moment on my bike: ooh geez... a lot of them... maybe right now (because it´s the most recent) it´s when my (boy)friend and i rented cruisers in argentina to go wine tasting (yeah, bikes and alcohol, probably not the brightest) and my chain kept falling off, and then it finally broke. between the two of us we could not get it back together (well, the lack of chain tool and missing link didn´t help- dah!). we were pretty much out in the middle of nowhere on a highway, and were like "yeah, right we´ll find a bike shop out here". well, not only did we find a bike shop, but TWO of them, in people´s garages in the town we had passed through. the first was closed, but at the second we sat for a half hour and chatted with an elderly argentine man as he pieced my chain back together again.

Most fun ever had on a bike? every time!

Oh yeah, those STUPID tracks! Whenever I come in from a ride in the west hills, I hit the tracks that run North/South-can't remember the name of the street...up by NW 23rd. Then I have to turn off and I'm always trying to find another way to get home. Who's bright idea was it to run tracks that aren't perpendicular to the road on say....4th and Washington (I think)?? The little signs of the poor biker person falling to his death after hitting the MAX track is enough to deter me....
I get to have pizza after this, right? No...wait...cheesecake....

WAH!!! Velo Club, aiiiyeee! Fly, you fools! Everybody off Huron River Drive! On your left! On your left! On your leftyourleftyourleftyourleft ... !

By the power vested in me by the Regents of the University Of Michigan, I now pronounce this discussion a charter site of the UM Alumni Society. "Sing to the colors that float in the light, hurrah for the Yellow and Blue ..."

So now the BIG question: Two Wheel Tango or Great Lakes?
