    SW,

I am so sorry to hear this news. My DH's best friend Chris died of this horrible disease this past March at age 49, leaving behind a wife and four children. He was optimistic and cheerful up until the end. He was unfortunately not diagnosed until the cancer reached Stage 4 due to lack of health insurance, and as a result, it spread to his liver and finally his lungs, despite surgery, multiple chemo and radiation treatments. He lived for several years after his initial diagnosis and surgery, though, must longer than the doctors ever predicted. He was an inspirational man to all those who knew him.

For all those here over 50 or younger with symptoms or a family history, get a colonoscopy! It's so important.

You and your entire family will be in my thoughts....

Emily you beat me to it - about getting a colonscopy. Please do it if after 50 or if you have a family history.

Spoke - Take heart with your BIL - medicine nowadays is amazing. If he still has some liver function he should be OK. Hopefully the cancer is removed and chemo will deal with the rest.

Be strong for your sister. She'll need it. Be an ear fr your BIL. He'll need to be able to speak his mind freely in the coming months in order to deal with the fear. Family and friends are powerful medicine. So is prayer. Take special care.

Spokewrench, just noticed this thread. I am so sorry to hear of the news. So many good people are afflicted with cancer and it is so devastating to the cancer patient and to family. My thoughts and prayers are with your BIL and you and your family.

    Jan,

I am so sorry. We went through something similar with my aunt at the end of 2005/beginning of 2006. Please let me know if you have any questions about treatment, disease progression, or whatnot. In hindsight, I should have gotten some extra emotional support for myself. Hopefully you are better at this than I was! Hang in there . . . and take care of YOU.
