Welcome! You can't imagine how many of us started out on a comfort bike. You may NEVER know how many of us are very overwieght or were when we started riding! Find a nice club, they are out there. Ride because you like it. Goals are great but remember to keep having fun. At 100 miles a week, I'd say you'll be able to do a 50. When a 20 mile ride starts to feel like a quickie ride, you will really be smiling. I can still remember how unsure I was about riding my first 10 miler on my new comfort bike.
