New high for me - went out with the family this morning running errands for a few miles (and towing 70 lbs of kids in the trailer), then went to my book group and back. All told, about 15 miles for me today. It was a really nice day!

We did the Biscuits N Gravy Century out in San Angelo, Texas today. It was a really nice area nd the volunteers were superb. I will write a full recap later but we did 99.37 (can I count this as century #2 for the year?) at 15.7. Yes, I know I could have pedaled around the parking lot for .63 miles...![]()

You don't have to be great to get started, but you do have to get started to be great. -Lee J. Colan
Fifth ride on the Iron Girl triathlon route. I felt stronger and more confident than last week and that translated into a 24 second improvement. I'll get in one more ride on the route next Sunday before the big event on the 19th.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

My second decent ride on Nahanni; a 71km outing on as many different kinds of roads and trails as I could find. After adjusting heights and angles on yesterday's ride, today's jaunt was pure joy. This bike is perfect.![]()

I tackled a 60 mile route today:
http://www.kybikerides.org/ridemaps/1306.htm
It was fairly hilly but we traveled some beautiful roads in and around my area. We even rode some of the OKHT route today. It was awfully hot and humid today. When we started a little after 8 a.m. it was already in the upper 70's. I know by the time we got back to our cars the temps had to be in the mid 90's and I'm sure the heat index was close to 100. It was just plain HOT!
I rode a century yesterday and decided to ride the 60 mile club ride today to simply see if I could handle two hard days back to back. The group I rode with today was slow so my average time was dismal but even with that once my legs warmed up I did okay. I often rode ahead of them and waited at each intersection. I'm now giving some serious thoughts to the 100 mile course on first day of OKHT and the 55 mile return ride on the second day. I'm beginning to think I can do this challenging combination.

I did the shop ride this a.m.
DH is sick with tonsilitis, so he stayed home.
Mike - LBS owner - put his foot down on the hammerfest that the ride had become - he really wants to stress that this is a social ride - meant to encourage comraderie, teach group riding skills, and be a generally fun ride. Consequently, he did away with the "A" ride. So...the "B" ride is now the "A" ride, and the "C" ride is now the "B" ride. Got it?
So, I rode with my "C", er, "B" peeps. It was generally a great ride, but we had no leader and had some dissenting views on which route to take. So a few, um, discussions at various traffic lights, soon put us on a good track.
So, I got 30.7 miles in on this hot and sticky day at 17.7 mph.

We rode 10.5 miles of steep hills today. The ride went well but we didn't have much of a shoulder to ride on and some rednecks gave us a hard time.I'm thinking of putting in a really early ride tomorrow because our temps are going to be 100 F and above by Wednesday.

Just a short spin on the newly repainted commuter just a half hour to a nearby coffee shop, sat and had coffee outdoors, rode back.
The screaming yellow bike is very visible. I'm not telling anyone to paint your bike yellow but drivers heads fairly whipped about, they see me.![]()
Even got a nod, and a smile from a driver in a low-rider customized Caddy.
Nice bike.

26 mile Mississippi River levee ride. But this time I actually hooked up with some other riders - turns out all of us didn't feel like driving over to Thibodaux for a hot MS training ride around sugar cane fields. So a group of strangers became friends and we'll see each other on future training rides on the north shore (rides north of Lake Pontchartrain) that has some shade, and a unique concept for most of us - hills!

Sunday was a day of meeting and riding with brothers of the lady that I ride with on Thursdays. (Her brothers race cat4-5) IT was their "slow pace/cool down" after racing day. It was fun, we all met at Peter's house, and left. New clip pedals were still fresh for me, so I lagged at all the stop/start areas. We went for 29 miles, small hills and some grindy longer ones and they would take turns circling back to talk to DH (who also went, as we are on vacation now) or myself. They were so nice, and coaching us on to get up some hills and giving advice and talking in general. I was worried as, these guys are brutal and love hills and speed. I thought for sure there dust would be settled by the time we caught up to them, but they just meandered and went with the pace we had set. I realize it was their slow day but still, I thought we would be holding up their pace. We left at 3 in the afternoon. It was hot!!! and I am an early morning rider, so it took me a little to get under motion and used to the heat. I was nervous about riding with them, experienced riders vs. recreational riders, but we had fun. This was my first "group" ride and was fun. I don't think I would like a bigger group. This was just right for now.
We went north out of town to avoid Seafair people. While we did trail riding, it was full of "phantom hills". There was low grade incline most of the ride.
It was hot, windy (does all wind have to be headwind?!), and crowded. We ended up doing 52 miles though and it was DH's longest ride ever. All in all, it was good!
