There are some other things you can do before investing in a road bike. They are minor, but overall it might make a little difference. Get your bike fit, even a hybrid, if your shoulders are fatiguing in an upright position, you may need some help fitting the bike to you. Any local bike shop can do this. As others have said, clipless pedals will give you more power. There are some that are very easy to clip in and out of on the lower end of the price scale. Ask the guys at your LBS what you can do to your bike to make it lighter. If you haven't already, get some slicker tires put on. You are doing awesome, good luck on your tri.

Oy. I tried this and it weighs close to 40 pounds. I'm 174, scale at 213 or so.

Thanks again for the encouragement!!! I'm looking at some road bikes.

Make sure to post when you decide on a bike, I'm going to start looking at road bikes but it's all making my head spin and my wallet hurt.

WOW! 40 pounds! Then the average you are keeping on the bike is really impressive lady!

My roadie weighs around 19 and my tri bike weighs around 21. I can't imagine having to pedal a 40 pound bike around.

A new bike is in order, if you want to get faster and more serious on the bike. Good luck!
