....me, the lover of classic butted lugged steel, me who said she would never ride aluminum or carbon and whose newest bike is 1986 vintage....I have finally caved to the 21st century. I haven't named her yet, but here --in all her aluminum AND carbon glory-- is the newest addition to my stable. What *have* I done....?![]()

You must be tall.
Enlighten me as to the handlebar arrangement, please.

The bars are stock Rocky Mountain flatbars. When I got the bike home, I added a set of Profile Designs MTB bar ends to give me two more hand positions and a more leaned-over upper body position, and wrapped the whole thing with comfy cork tape (I never find the stock rubber grips comfortable).
And yes, I am tall: a statospheric 5' 11".

This is probably a dumb question but is that a mtn bike? A cross bike? It's a nice looking bike, don't get me wrong... and in any event Congrats! More bikes is good...
Disc brakes and handlebars say mountain, but wheels and frame say cross or road?
Thanks.

Kewl. I didn't know RM mountain made things like that. I rather lust after an Element - clean simple lines of a hardtail, but not one.![]()
Drink coffee and do stupid things faster with more energy.
I didn't either. It didn't even occur to me it was a hybrid - as my vision of those is I guess just different. But that just shows how much my knowledge of hybrids has evolved since the early 90s....![]()
Thanks for telling me!
aha. The end bars wrapped like the flats disrupted my brains idea of road bars.
Cool. It's a mutt of a bike but just like dogs, those are the best kind.

Sweet bike, was it a custom build? (I want a 'mutt' bike too!)
Not really a custom build; it's straight off-the-shelf from Rocky Mountain. It's a 2006 model, you can see it on RM's website here
I'm itching to take her for a decent long ride, but I haven't had the time so far. Arrrrgh! Hopefully tomorrow. Maybe I'll post a ride report; I'm sure it will be an interesting experience compared to the vintage steel bikes I've been riding for nearly forty years!
Cheers,
S.
