Was wondering if anyone who either lives in NZ or has been to NZ could provide some travel info?

Looking on suggestions on where to ride xc mtn, preferable singletrack, with some scenic riding. Also, where to rent bikes as we will not by flying with ours.

    Thanks for the site, crazycanuck!

Also, any suggestions for outdoor fun (kayaking, hiking, skiing) would be greatly appreciated...

Also, was wondering if you could recommend a car rental company? Are snow chains needed? We would be picking up in aukland and dropping off in christchurch. We are not sure if we want to separate it out (aukland-wellington), take ferry over as passengers, and then pick up another car in picton-christchurch OR do the whole trip with one car and pay the ferry for the car in addition. Any suggestions?

DUnno if Zippy's cafe has a website but that's the fuky hangout in Rotovegas for mtn bikers. Renting a bike could be interesting...If you do bike in rotovegas (rotorua) the redwoods would be your safest singletrack bet.

I guess you could do the 42nd traverse but not with just the two of you, esp at this time of year.

Again, try the vorb site & ask there about bike rentals on the north island.

Oh then again..Wellington has some good mtn biking as well.

If you can get a copy of the Kennett Brother's guide to Mtn biking in NZ, check it out. THe ground effect site I think has some trail info as well. www.groundeffect.co.nz
