I currently own only 2 pairs of shorts. They are both Pearl Izumi. Does anyone have any input on other brands? Its not that I don't like my Pearl's, I was just wanting some insight on other shorts. i.e. more expensive brands, cheaper brands.
Thanks,
Karen

I love the gel chamois in some of the Louis Garneau shorts. I have a friend who swears by her Castelli shorts(they are the next ones I am going to buy). I also really like Giordana's. These are all a little on the expensive side, but I feel they are worth it for the comfort.
I am aware of all the wonderful products that TE carries and have "window" shopped quite frequently. I actually purchased my first pair of shorts through them. I was just wondering about the comfort and fit of brands other than Pearl Izumi.
I think Grog was referring to the forum section specifically focussed on apparel, not the TE store (which is of course great, also):

Thanks for the great info. I wore gel shorts when I first started riding, but now they just seem too thick. I actually wore a pair of "tri-shorts" the other day on a 25 mile ride. I don't know if you are aware or not but the "tri-shorts" have an extremely minimal pad. It's more like just a few extra layers of the lycra material. But what surprised me, is that my butt or anything else couldn't really tell the difference. What I mean to say is, is after I got home nothing was sore. About a month ago I purchased a Selle Italia and once my butt conditioned to that, it hasn't been sore once.
But due to your info, I will look into the castelli shorts. I have seen them several times in the Colorado Cyclist catalog and of course online. The look pretty cool. Hopefully they will fit well also.
Thanks again,
Karen
Oh.......duh sorry. Im a bit of a newbie at this forum thing.

Karen I personally like the Trek shorts - the pad is wonderful.

My favorites are Etxeondo Sann Short. The chamois' are really comfortable and breath well. Colorado Cyclist catalog has them on sale right now.
I just recently saw Trek shorts at my local bike shop. I had no idea Trek even made shorts. I didn't try them on, but the pad did look very fluffy and comfortable and the price wasn't bad either. With your good recommendation, they may very well be my next purchase.
Thanks,
Karen
Karen,
I hear you about the prices but they are so worth it. I only have one pair but am going to order another now that they are on sale. I have 3 pair of Pearl Izumi's, a different chamois in each one but the Etxeondo's chamois is better.
Good luck with your purchases.

Hmmmm.....$99.00. That may be a little easier to justify....![]()
