mountain bike or road bike? I'm not too far away from PDX & there's great riding really close to me if you're mt biking.

Hi all!
I'm a brand new rider and would love to find people to ride with that wouldn't mind a newbie. I've had my bike for about a year, but broke my arm a month after getting it. I'm just now starting to go back out again.
Also, can anyone give me any advice on how to figure out all the gears? I'm having a tough time learning on my own. I have a triple, if that makes a difference.
Thanks! Happy Riding!

Sorry, I should have thought to mention this... road bike.
There are a number of us women who get together to ride on Wednesday nights and some weekend days. Some of us are training for Cycle Oregon - others just like to ride. We're a low-key bunch that welcomes new riders. We won't leave you behind. They've set up a yahoo group at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group...omens_Cycling/
Hope to see you out on the road.
