I have PI road shoes and I have not had the slippery-ness problem. However, I have Crankbrothers Quattros pedals and the cleats are recessed with a nice plastic/rubber thingie that goes around the outside and sort of serves as tread. I really like my road shoes, but if I didn't have the Crankbrothers cleats, I bet you anything I'd be ice skating all over town!
Knock on wood, I am yet to crash down on my top tube...although I'll probably do it tomorrow since I just typed that. That sounds extremely painful...I hope you're ok, Sundial!

Sara, thanks I'm doing fine. Actually the fall worked in my favor because it produced a nasty bruise on my thigh and the LBS boys gave me a significant discount on the Frogs.
