Transmitter magnet on flat spoke

Hi grrrls!

I have a small problem. I own a Schwinn wireless cyclocomputer and I can't get to fit the transmitter magnet on my new wheels. I have Ksyrisum Elite wheels on my new bike (wahoo!) and the spokes, much to my surprise, are flat! (Never owned such a nice pair of wheels before...) The transmitter magnet is appearantly built for round spokes, and there is only about an inch on which I could fix it but at that height on the fork there's no room for the other part of the transmitter (the actual transmitter).

Is my Schwinn computer the problem? Or is there another way to get around this?

Hey Grog... I'd roll past my local LBS for this one.

Sometimes all you need is another set of eyes/hands to look at the problem. I was running up against a wall with the installation of my Mavic WinTech and I went to the shop... boom! The fella said "Well, you could do this..." and it all became clear. Not to mention ths shops usually have all kinds of doo-hickeys around to attach stuff to bikes.

Ask the LBS and also look at Mavic's site. These are pretty common wheels so there has to be an easy solution.

When Santa gave me Topolino's for Xmas he had to get a specific magnet to fit the weirdo (kevlar/carbon) spokes.

Grog, I was just looking on Mavic's site. The Kysrium SL says it comes with a magnet (look under accessories). At least Mavic is addressing the issue and you just need to order it for the Elite.

... after a bit of fiddling late last night (after seeing Million Dollar Baby which kept me thinking... and somewhat inspired me on my ride of today) I finally fixed the #(@%& thing. I installed the magnet on the very small round part of the spoke (about 1 centimeter very close to the rim) and found a way to fix my transmitter with enough rubber so that the tie wraps wouldn't slide all the way down the fork.

I'm couldn't speed too much today as there were lots of tourist types on the bike path where I ride. But I can tell you, the thing works. I'm more of a paper journal kind, but I will probably register on bikejournal.com...
