Fancy equipment may make a difference sometimes but it ultimately comes down to training, talent and drive.
VERY impressive, congratulations.

Congrats on your upgrade, Cathy! You are with the "big girls" now. Please be careful (stupid thing to say to a racer). When Scott upgraded to a 3, he started having a lot crashes. Let's just say the big boys did not play nicely and he was unprepared for the pushing and shoving, etc. Hopefully, the women aren't as mean.
Who is that woman w/ the USA jersey standing in the middle of the picture? I have seen her cycling around here.
Thanks, Robyn! And no worries - the last thing I always say to my team before a race is to remember that we all have to work on Monday. Meaning, I am a fairly cautious racer.
The woman in the National Champion jersey is our own Julie! She races for NEBC, and is currently the Women's 65+ National champion in Road, Crit, TT and 'Cross. She's headed to Europe to give a go at Worlds, last I heard.

OK, now I know who she is. Once, my husband went out on one of the rides out of Hanscom and she was leading. This was a few years ago when he was still pretty "crazy" about cycling. After barely hanging on for about 10 miles she dropped him like a bug and he ended up riding back to the car by himself. All he could say is that he got smoked by an old lady until one day we were at Cycle Loft and we saw her picture on the wall with all of her awards. I used to see her ride by my house when I lived in Boxborough.
That was definitely NOT Julie. We have another former National champion - that was Lee, who also does registration at the CBTT.

Is she a bit shorter? I met that woman at the registration table last summer when Richard, my former exchange student, was here and he did the tt (did I already say he's a pro??? I claim him as my son in a roundabout way!) Anyway, yes, that's the one that probably smoked my husband. But, I do see Julie riding around here a lot.
