I've been having fun reading thru the back-posts on this thread. I love SnappyPix's quote from Sir Winston Chainwheel. I also like this one.

I didn't realize how competitive I am until I landed on BJ. How I would love to be able to say, "on your left" to PKQ. At one time I thought it was a possibility, but since then I've had 2 knee injuries which have really messed up the last 2 months. (my brother-in-law once referred to me as "the kind of person who knocks over floor lamps" - could it be that I'm accident prone? )

I'm going to start riding again on Saturday. On weeks I'm not away I'll need to average 100 miles/week aka 15 miles/day if I'm going to get to Atlantic City this year. I still have a goal of first 1000 on BJ. There's absolutely no doubt that on-line competitiveness has me biking more than I would have otherwise. From some of the comments on this thread it seems I'm not alone in that.

    Jeez Louise!

BikeGoddess is ranked 124th among all individuals!

I'm really afraid of you now grrl!

Me with my paltry 50 miles... all done in one place on one day. Like the 25 cents my daddy told me not to spend in one place. I feel so..... pitiful

It would have cost me another $80 to fly the bike home AND chance more scratches, but I chose to ship it UPS. Much cheaper.

Go to the site for the airlines you're using and check for bike regulations for international travel. I'd also suggest (unless you already have one) the purchase of a hard bike case rather than using one of those cardboard boxes.

I have a Trico Iron Case, and other than the TSA agents mis-hap, my bike arrived with no extra bends in her parts. She's in her case and on a UPS truck as we speak. You might even consider using UPS for your bike...
Spazzdog, thanks for the advice - I did check with the airline twice (British Airways/Qantas) and bikes are ok, as long as you supply dimensions. I splashed out and bought a hard case to transport my baby in. The LBS were really helpful and offered to give me a demonstration of fitting the bike in the case any time. My baby will be wrapped in insulating foam, bubble wrap and have the hard shell around it, hopefully it'll be ok
It'll be in the lap of the goddesses/baggage handlers after that!

    BJ is bad for you!

This is no good. Since joining TE/BJ I have become a complete and utter nerd and utterly, completely obsessed!
I'm sure there used to be other things filling my time, but now I can't seem to recall what any of them were! Obviously, they weren't that important.

It was a beautiful spring evening last night, so naturally I thought I'd go out for a quick little spin after work ... however, Nancy's words were ringing in my ears ...

I'm now so motivated (read: competitive) and driven (read: obsessed) and my energy levels are sky high (read: wired!).
I'm sure all this can't be good for me. I'm losing weight My average speed is going up Muscles are starting to peek out from behind the cellulite I'm knocking minutes off my circuit time

I think TE/BJ should carry some kind of public warning. All these endorphins and natural highs - can't be legal, surely?

Ahh! The glories of summer! You will be going to NZ looking like a goddess and all those Kiwis will be weak and wan from the winter! I hope the weather is good to you over there and you can keep on riding and logging in here and telling us about your further adventures in cycling!!!

Bless you Nuthatch, don't think I'll ever be described as a Goddess, but I can dream! I most certainly WILL be checking into TE - I aim to get broadband as soon as I land, or find a cafe that will get me online in the meantime!

I couldn't got without getting my fix of TE now and hearing about everyone's progress and escapades!

fixedgeargirl, check out the Breaking News section on bike journal. They come up with a way for you to keep track of those miles when you are pulling the trailer!

    Rackin up those miles

Hey Spazz- Just remember I'm the older one! Gotta catch up with the young ins!

124th? That's pretty amazing! But who are these people that do 360 miles in one day? Come on I have a HARD time believing that! What's the top dog say- how many miles since Jan 1st? What's he do? (I'm assuming its a guy) count miles for sleeping?

The big rides stick in memory, though (62 miles, temps in the high 30s, for instance), so those won't be a problem.

I emailed them to request they add a category for those of us who pull tag-alongs/trailers. I'm going to wait to see if they get that up, then I'll add all the miles I put in pulling my 50lb. son to the park and various events. I felt I should extra credit for when I'm pulling him around !!
WElcome welcome welcome!....not only did Slantz listen to ya (ain't he a Great guy) but YOU got mentioned and thanked for the idea!....Wooohooo our very own BJ celebrity!!!

And I see MM as signed up but she hasn't made her way to the TE club yet!...MM - if you see this, you can (if you so desire of course) sign up for the TE club and get your miles logged in with us.

and Now a word from Corsair "momma" Mac: just as an FYI to all of us out there, Slantz runs BJ from his home and does an awesome job. It is free but there is a $10 once a year contribution that you can make if you so choose(it is Not Required) to help Slantz support this awesome website. If ya'll get a chance, I would ask on behalf of Slantz to help support the site and get a yellow jersey by your name! (admin I apologize in advance if I've overstepped the rules of the board with this post.)
PS: if we get 50% of our members to reg - our Club gets premier club status and gets a polka dot jersey!! Yipppeeee!!!!
(only 300 miles to our first 10,000 - the TE ladies ROCK!!)

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Actually Nancy they're rando riders. These ppl do something like unbelievable miles in a Day!! they carry full boat loads of lights and all their food, they have very strict rules about support (I think they have to carry their own gear?). Anyway, I can't remember the website right now. I kinda, sorta thought You were a rando rider when your miles first showed up!! The PKQ that Maggie mentioned in her post is one of them as are a few other women and then several of the high mileage guy riders. As far as I'm concerned those ppl are unattainable and are there for me to sit back and admire as I slug my way thru another 13 mile lunch ride or my 12 mile daily commute!! I had thought about looking into rando riding - but the closest sanctioned rides near me was a 6-7+ hr drive just to Get there let alone ride 300+ miles in one day and then come home?......not this ol lady tyvm!

Not at all - Slantz deserves huge kudos for BJ. I'm sure he greatly appreciates any contributions to help offset bandwidth / hosting costs.

PS. Thanks everyone for the well-wishes ... I'm sure Susan's chocolate-chip cookies will have me all-healed-up in no time!

I just learned that I had my "compare only outdoor miles" checked in my profile so I went and unchecked it and Holy Moly - our team is almost to 11,000 miles. Man oh man do we all ROCK or what??....
