no ride for me today. After a long day at work, DH and I are busy getting things ready for a backpacking trip. Can't wait, 4 days of backpacking away from everything. Although I will miss my bike and dog![]()
Yep, rest day for me today after a long ride yesterday. I did do 15 minutes of recovery riding on a gym recumbent, but that doesn't really count as a ride!![]()

I rode twice today. I started my day off riding, measuring and marking the route I plan to use for the club ride I'm hosting on Friday. It is a great rural route with lots of beauty country to take in and very few cars to deal with. Sadly, my old computer decided half way through the ride to start acting up again and the mileage I'm sure is off by .5 - 1.0. It really shouldn't be a big deal given I marked all the turns with my beautiful green "Dan Henry" mark. This morning's ride was around 37 miles at a very leisurely pace (my legs are beat after the century on Saturday and the twenty mile ice cream ride yesterday).
The second ride was a recovery ride with the club. In reality it seems silly to drive 50 miles round trip to ride 13 miles but I enjoy the ride and look forward to the dinner aferward with some of the ladies in the club. The ride was nice, the company and dinner following were equally as nice.
No new personal best were set today, I simply rode to get out of the house, stretch my legs and adjust my brain chemistry.

Not quite as hot here as in Arizona, but air quality -- ORANGE, which is unhealthy for "sensitive people" -- which amounts to an awful lot of people AND the healthiest of us if we get out and active and breathing deeply...
So, the lady weathercaster this morning, talks about how the air is really bad, everyone should ride their bikes to work. It'll help, she says.
Yes, that's true, if more of us would commute, the air quality would be better, but if everyone in Boise ends up with the headache I get from smoke inhalation when I go biking in this air, we don't want to go there!
(ooh, and if half the people in Boise get the boogers DH gets, well, we don't have enough trees on the planet for the tissues we'll be needing!)
Yeah, we're going out some anyway, and paying the price afterward, cuz we're both getting mighty cranky missing our rides!

Ah, you slackers! I dragged Mr. East Hill out for a turn around Lake Youngs reservoir even though it was already fairly warm at 8.00 am. It was pleasant only because I had on my sleeveless tank top instead of something warmer.
I hope you all know I am joking about the 'slackers'--I hate the heat, and would not go out in it myself.

My 40 mile ride turned out to be too hot for this gal. If I wasn't so slow and got out earlier mabe I could beat some of this 100 degree stuff. My camelback was worth it's weight in gold. About 4 miles from home I began getting chills, so stopped at a DQ to cool and down a malt + ice water. 7 miles of my road had a new top poured last week and was smooooooth. Bad news, I had to ride through construction crews putting gravel on my beautiful road.My route to ride will be cut to 3 with the first miles the same. Not many roads in this part of the state if you don't want to go interstate. On occasion I see another local cyclist but yesterday it was fun to meet a tourist who was on his 20th day of cycling from Washington, and was headed to ride Ragbrai.
I did my almost 16 mile loop and felt pretty terrible the whole time. It was only about 82 out and moderate humidity, but the sun was blazing down at 2:45 when i started. I kept trying to motivate myself by thinking about SheFly's record time on the tt, since this is the same route, except I do it backwards and add some miles. Didn't work, and I felt myself slowing and it looked like my speeds were down from where they usually are at certain points of the ride. Usually, on the second half of the loop, I put it in the big ring and fly, but I stayed in the middle ring until about 2 miles from my house, when the sun finally went behind a cloud. When I got to my street, I stopped to take a really long drink. By this time, I had already finished my bottle of Accelerade and was on to the water, in less than an hour! So, I was shocked to see that my average was 16.2. But, I could not push it hard up the big hill and my driveway, which I approached at a steady pace of 8.5.
