    Friday the 13th rides

Being fearless about Friday the 13th (I got married on a Friday 13th, 32 years ago), I rode to work today. Nothing bad happened. Uneventfull ride. Nice that the gears were all there for me and the brakes weren't rubbing in front. DS gave the bike a little tune-up as my birthday present Monday (or maybe that was just so I could concentrate on getting the cake finished).
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Today's Friday the 13th? Wow. I guess it is. I had forgotten.
I'm in CT staying at my sister's - helping Mom clean out the house. I brought my road bike up with me, as we are getting some fun time in, too. Had dinner last night on their boat, which is always pleasant.
This a.m., I managed to get in 16 miles as I started late and was a bit pressed for time. I really forget how HILLY Connecticut is!! I didn't sleep last night...what is it about first night in a new place that breeds insomnia?? Tomorrow...hopefully I'll get in more.

I did 31.5 miles. It was about 80 when I left and at least 90 or more by the time I got home. I'm completely wiped out. It turned out to be a hard ride for me, I think because of the heat. It's hotter today than it's been.

Another milestone for me though, sort of. The longest I'd gone on my single was 30. I intended to do 35 or 40, but the new route I went on ended up only being 31.5. But it's still 1.5 miles longer than my farthest! (I've gone as far as 60 on the tandem so far.)

No ride today for it was a day of rest before a century with the club tomorrow. Instead, I went shopping to see if I could find some clothes to fit my "new body." I did not have a lot of luck but came home with a pair of Dockers and a pair of jeans. I might have to make a trip into the big city of Louisville one day next week to look around and see what I can find before school starts.

Off to bed for it will be an early start tomorrow.

    Good luck on the cent!

I did a 13 mile lunch ride with the boys from work. Good thing it was only 13 cause I am not sure I can hold that pace for longer... but I had a great time despite feeling a little illish today.

    fri 13th

I got married on Fri 13th also - guess today would have been my wedding anniversary also if i was still married! :-)

I had a poor day - I have just been rising about 3 weeks now - doing great - increasing distances up to 30 miles--- until today - just had 'no rhythm' or something today - it wasn't physically too hard, it was just I wasn't really 'with' the bike somehow... is that how it is sometimes??

Sometimes I feel cruddy so I tell myself "self? just go, if you still feel bad in 5 miles you can hang it up" and 3 miles in .... whoopee!! Other days inexplicably you look down and "hey, I've never done this hill in the big ring"

It all depends. Just keep riding.

I had one of the worst weeks at work that I've had in a long time (and that's saying something), so TGIF, despite the bad luck date.

I leave at 2:00 on Fridays, one of the benefits of working maxiflex. It was cloudy/humid and there was a chance of rain, a decent wind was blowing and not many folks were out. Was able to zen out a little bit. Got in my usual weekenday 29 miles. I did encounter the creepy guy I've been seeing, but I was not friendly to him, despite his loud and effusive greeting. I see him every day---he yells things at me--"hi!" "looking strong" etc. Seemed harmless enough until Thursday, he turned around so he could try and engage me in a conversation. I told him, "you're making me nervous, leave me alone please." He got the hint and vamoosed, but not before almost inavertently hitting me.

I know a co-worker who's deliberately stupid when it comes to harassing women. Sometimes women just finally explode and essentially tell him to drop dead. But there's always a new person coming in that he can go after .

As to my Friday, well, I worked OT, and had arranged to meet Mr. East Hill at the post office where we have our P.O. Box. I had a registered article being sent to me from my mother, and a set of NOS Golden Arrow brakes/brake levers/hoods being sent from Germany which I had to pick up.

About 8.20 am, the skies opened up, and sent down showers of hail, plus thunder and lightning. I decided not to press my luck, and called my husband to pick me up. I really didn't want to be out in the weather, and I was not expecting rain--lots of rain.

I think I got about 15 miles in before the rain/thunder/lightning started.

    East Hill
