Tatormc, that's the way to think, exactly! A few years ago I was miles per hour a way from keeping up with my dear husband on rides and thought we'd never be able to ride together without him (and I) both being unhappy. I averaged 13 mph on a good ride, he, more like 17-18 mph. Now, several years (and a couple new bikes) later, I can ride with him, especially if I draft off his wheel. Yesterday we rode 55 miles together and averaged 17.3! The good news is, you have more to gain from training, since chances are, he is already about where he is going to stay. You have a lot more "upside potential". Just hang in there, keep working on it, and be thankful that you have a patient and helpful DH!
