    Squeaking bike

I am pretty fed up with my squeaking bike. It's been broken down, cleaned, parts changed, etc. The seat post is just killing me with the noise. My Giant OCR3 is not even 2 years old. I don't ride it in the rain. My bike mechanic (DH) is very good with the bikes and cleans and maintains them regularly. Incidentally, he has a Giant OCR3 and his squeaks more than mine, especially b/c he has more miles on his than I do on mine. And he has replaced his bottom bracket (I haven't)--this stops the squeak for a while but then it came back

So, my question is: does anyone have this kind of bike and does yours squeak? My squeak comes when I lean forward onto the nose of the seat. When I lean back to the back of the seat it goes away. For comfort reasons, I'd like to use both positions when riding.

My DH and I both are to the point that we are considering saving for another bike (not an easy task--we have lots invested in our current bikes) just so we can get some peace and quiet on the bike.

Try replacing your seatpost to a carbon seatpost. I'm going to do the same in the near future, mine creaks and I have the ocr 2. Jenn

Have you tried lubricating the saddle rails?

My friend just bought this bike and is having a terrible problem with a rattling sound that no one can find. She has lubed many parts and still, it's there. I wonder if this is some kind of issue with this bike.

still squeaking even with carbon post

my husband put a carbon seat post on his bike and it made the noise worse so he changed back to aluminum and the noise lessened but it is still there. i'll try to lube up the seat rails and see how that does.

    Maybe it's the saddle.

Have your LBS check the frame. Use a flashlight to look down into the seat tube. When our shop sold Giant, we did have a few frames that had bad welds. You could see the weakness down in the seat tube with a flashlight. I remember it was often the OCR 1, but that is the same frame as the OCR 3.

That is strange b/c I read that Giants have squeking/creaking spots on them. I was hoping the seatpost would help.

I had an giant ocr 1 that had a squeak problem that I thought was coming from the seat post. The LBS greased the seat post and it still did not solve the problem. After they did some research, he suggested the problem was not the seat post, but the headset and stem. He greased the headset and we replaced the two piece adjustable stem with a solid Richey stem and ... no more squeak! Apparently sound travels so it is hard to tell exactly were the problem is coming from. If you have the two piece adjustable stem, I would try replacing that and see if that solves your problem. Hope this helps.
