    Anyone used Hammer Nutrition's Perpetuem?

I have. what do you need to know?
    It seems to work
    Taste well....
The only thing is won't last long when mixed - it's starts to develop a sour milk taste after 6 hours(Yes, JoBob and Jiffer, I'm a certified crazy Lady)

I was using Perpetuem for a while and it seemed to be fine, but when I used it on a moderately difficult hill climb I think it gave me a bit of an upset stomach. It might have been a combination of perpetuem with endurolyte capsusles, but I'm not too sure about that. I also noticed it had a slight fishy smell.

Right now I'm trying out Spiz (www.spiz.net) and I'm going to give Sustained Energy a try as well at some point. I'm still in the experimentation phase ...

If I recall correctly, Veronica prefers Sustained Energy. Mixed with Gatorade.

From what recall on Hammer website(www.ecaps.com) and thier Yahoo! list, if Prep start to smell, don't drink it! It has to do with the protein used in it.
I'm considering switching to SE, since it seems more heat tolerant

I have to be honest and say I just can not stand the taste of this stuff. I tried mixing it with Hammer Gel to hide the taste but alas I could still taste it.
From what I have read the more concentrated the mix is the longer it will last in the heat. They have a blurb on the site about mixing it to a slightly liquid paste and carrying it in a gel flask. I think they recommend this way if you are taking it on long warm rides.

Am considering using it for Ride Across INdiana (one-day, one-way, 160-mile ride across the state). Unfortunately, we were not able to get our supply until recently, so we couldn't try it on any of our looong rides. Have used it on several shorter rides and don't have issues with taste, gastric upset, etc. Will have a support vehicle for RAIN so access to cold mixture will not be a problem.

The warning regarding not consuming Perpetuem in conjunction with anything containing simple, refined sugar is what has me concerned. We've heard the horor stories and have no desire to be on the receiving end of a knock-out punch.

In the past, we've always used PowerBars and PowerGels -- both of which contain sugars and would not, therefore, be suitable for use with Perpetuem. But what about things like pretzels, etc., that don't contain sugar? See, I like food. Actually, I'm a HUGE fan of food! The people at Hammer suggest not consuming anything other than Perpetuem, but looking forward to food is what motivates me to get to the next SAG. Do you really not get hungry on this stuff? 12-14 hours without a Snickers bar? Are they crazy?!!

RAIN starts at 7 a.m. If I eat breakfast somewhere around 4-5 a.m., will there be an issue if I start the ride with Perpetuem? And how long does it take for Perpetuem to empty from your stomach? Once I cross the finish (and I WILL make it to the finish), will I still have to hold off ingesting "normal" food? Or should I switch to water with an hour to go so I'm not tempted to scarf bar tape just so I have something to chew on?

Im afraid I can not give you any advice on how this product goes over really long rides because well the taste was just no good for me to use it on longer rides. I can however tell you that you can use Hammer Gels with Perpetuem. Here is a link explaining that - scroll down to fueling notes.

    Hope this helps.

Isn't RAIN this coming Saturday ?

Well, you said you've tried it on short rides without any problem (but not saying anything about the distances covered in these short rides).

The thing is, you don't know yet how you'll react to it over the course of a long ride, say, over 100 miles, and this weekend would be a heck of a time to find out if it disagrees with you over the long haul.

We can give you all sorts of anectdotes, but the reality is you'll just have to find out for yourself how well it works for you.

If I were you, I'd stick with whatever form of nutrition you've used on your previous long rides. If you like solid food, stick with solid food for this weekend's ride. I'm assuming there will be plenty of SAG stops to keep you fed?

You'd be better off saving your experimentation for long, non-event rides.

One thing I would recommend is Hammer Gel. That stuff's great when you need a pick-me-up. I've used it with regular food (in my case, bagels, payday bars, and whatever else might be in front of me - I like food too )

I would not use something you have not used on a long ride for an event like that. So ditto what jobob said about sticking with what you have been training with.

I have been using SE mixed with Power Bar's endurance drink. Works very well. I have used it in long rides, but my nemesis is generally heat and altitude, so we'll see how it works Saturday. I've not tried Perpetuem.

I have eaten other things with the SE - cokes, for example. I don't want as much food with the SE as I would without, but what I do eat doesn't see m to interact badly. I was also a little put off by those warnings, but in practice, it seems okay.

I've used both Sustained Energy and Perpetuem (lovingly known as Perpetuity in our house) and like them both. The thing I like the best is that I am not usually hungry after I finish riding if I have followed the regimen properly. I always do a super concentrate and just take a small sip followed with plain water. My very long ride routine is to start at 15 minutes into the ride with a slug of Perpetuity or SE, gel on the 30 and 0, and Perpetuity on the 15 and 45 (that is, intake something every 15 minutes). My buddy is a 20 minute gal. You just have to experiment.

But ya, don't try it now!

I used it for a while. The reason I quit is because I just couldn't handle the taste when it got warm.

I use an InfinIT custom formula now. That works the best for me.
