I tried to open the TE map but could not. I was wondering if there is any members in Michigan. I am a newbie to riding and was just being nosey to see if anyone else might be new and a little closer to my area? However, if not, that is OK. This site is awesome.......lots of info.

SaslaMTB does in Livonia and I'm originally from Da U.P but now reside in Cincinnati. We frequently come up to MTB though. Where in the Great Lake state are you located?

    Hey Jeni-
Where in the U.P. where you from? I grew up in Houghton and went to High School there. I called Copper Harbor home for a long time. I have also lived in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Cincinnati (actually Ft. Thomas, KY) in my adult life. Sounds like we travel in similar circles!

I have never done a tour or rode with anyone besides my DH.....I would love to get with others who share the love of riding. My DH is "ok" with riding, but does it just so I have someone to ride with. Anyways......maybe some of you Michiganders can lead me into the right direction on where to start with a group......? I'm even up to riding with just a couple gals..... anything right now just to get me started towards a tour. I do ride solo, but not more than 20 miles. Thanks gals.

    What part?

Michigan is a big state. What part are you from. I still have a lot of friends in all parts of the state, many who ride. More mountain bikers than road riders, but maybe I could help if you narrow it down some!

    Hi,

Welcome! I'm another Michigander and live in Marysville (about an hour north of Detroit). I've also had the privilege to live in Kalamzaoo and grew up in Ishpeming (in the U.P.). One summer I got to go on a week-long bike trip around the Keewenaw penninsula. That was a lot of fun.

    Yooper, here

I live in Michigan, but about 500 miles from you, in Calumet (yes Nicole309, that Calumet! ). Not much help with finding people to ride with downstate, I'm afraid. I'll bet there are tons of women interested in starting a group - maybe you could check at your LBS?

    Hey Imanewcreation!

As Jeni said, I'm from MI, but a bit away from you. I know around here (metro detroit) the major roadie groups are cycling saddlemen, wolverines, and the ann arbor touring society. The Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society is a pretty major group, so you may be able to find some people around that area. Here is a link to their forum:

    http://groups.google.com/group/aabts-forum/topics

If you're into mountain biking, check out www.mmba.org.

You may be able to find some people on that site who are into road riding also. There are some females that post on the board, not sure if any are from your area though.

Also check out some of your local shops and see if they have any rides.

If you're ever around this area though, PM me and we can go for a ride!

Coming up July 21st is their Women on Wheels Ride(WOW). The guys are welcome too. The ride starts in Mason,MI. The TCBA also has a calander of of daily rides with a variety of speeds and distances to choose from.

I called the Eastern end of the UP home for the first 20 years of my life. My town is called Hessel (pop ~500) and is located between St Ignace and the Soo. Lake Superior State University after that. Moved to Hernando MS for a few years and then here to Cincinnati in 2000. Been here ever since. A lot of you guys on the Western end don't consider us E.U.P.ers real Yoopers. :-)

The only time I was in your neck of the woods, I was racing on my cross country skiis in 6th grade. I placed second. It was in Ontonogon.

My team and I ride Thursday nights in Ft Thomas. We go out Rt 8, turn around at Pendery Park and then climb River Rd into Ft. Thomas. If you're ever back in the area, give me a holler!

Jeni- I also was a "yoopa" for a short time. I lived in Barbeau just a short ride North of Hessel. But my DH family (extended) grew up in Hessel. In fact I think his parents once had a cabin in that neck of the woods somewhere. We lived right on the St. Mary river.....BEAUTIFUL. The freighters running through the front yard is not something everyone sees in a life time ya know?

I will check with my LBS on some riding, I will also keep lurking here because this is an awesome site for great info.

    Kimberly
