    Finally going to do it

Finally - Saturday I'm going to my LBS to test ride road bikes. They carry Giant and Trek. I've been browsing Ebay for a used bike, even though there are some good deals. A used bike fits my budget at this time, but from doing enough research I realize different manufacturer sizes are different, a WSD frame or compact and you just can't go by standover - inseam size, there is the tube length to consider - if you have a long or short torso.

I hope you have a good time bike shopping!

I'd be weary of finding a used bike on Ebay or Craigslist. A friend of mine had her road bike stolen just two weeks ago and it showed up within 12 hours on Craigslist... and was sold very shortly after, even before the inspector could call the seller himself.

Finding a used bike through a reputable shop is sometimes possible though. They might be able to point you to someone who knows someone who is changing their bike.

Good luck! It's a great, fun moment!!

May I suggest leaving your money and credit card at home? Take your time and have fun.

Thanks. Good idea, to leave the cash and credit card home. The bike shops in my area include Raleigh, Specialized and Jamis - but an hour away. The shop(Trek/Giant) that I'm going to is very reputable, I've dealt with them for many years.

    Thumbs up

    Did It!!!!!!!

I am getting a Giant OCR3w. I rode a Trek 1000(51 cm), Trek Pilot 1.2 and Giant OCR3w(small). The Giant won out. I like the linear brakes(is that what they're called - the additional brake levers?) It felt the best and rode the best to me. I won't get it for about 10 days - they only had the plum color - I like the light blue, didn't have it in a small. The said to ride it for a couple of weeks and if I don't like the saddle, they will exchange it for a different one.

Now, get out there and start riding with TCBA or the Ann Arbor bunch. Too bad Different Spokes of Detroit went t*ts up. Maybe you could start it again?
