ZenC and I had a terrific ride on the C&O Canal towpath today, from Point of Rocks, Md, to Harper's Ferry, WV, for a total of 25 miles. The weather was absolutely perfect, which meant that the towpath and Harper's Ferry were both packed with people, though we did manage a few miles at a time here and there without seeing more than a couple of people. I spotted a doe nursing two fawns at the edge of the towpath, but they unfortunately ran off before Zen had a chance to see them. And the river was gorgeous-- We talked about trying to fit some towels somewhere on our bikes, so we can stop to do some wading next time.
Great weather and scenery, a little history, a little ice cream, and a good riding buddy to make the crowds more bearable... That's my idea of a great ride![]()
