    Eww- Bug in the Eye!!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

So last night we were riding in the evening, the humidity and rain has sent the bugs into over drive. My Tifosis started to collect salt from the profuse amount of sweating I was doing so I stuck them in my back pocket, leaving my eyes unprotected but at least I had clear vision. About 10 minutes later a bug (one of those little icky gnat type things) flew in my eye! It hurt and was is worse is my immediate instinct was to throw my sweaty hand up towards my eye. Now I had a bug and salt in there!

Add insult to the situation, we were turning the last corner in our neighborhood and one of the same type flew in my other eye!! I didn't learn the first time so I immediately went for my eye.

The final gross part of this story? I ran into the bathroom to see the little dead bugs in trapped in my eyes, my tearing up didn't flush them out. I immediately flushed my eyes with drops. This is officially grosser than accidently swallowing one. DH and I thought it was pretty funny once I got my eyes rinsed and not red from the salty sweat in them.

    Aggie,

Same thing happened to me last night and the pain in my eye was intense!!!

Then, this morning, I went through one of those "gnat flocks" and while nothing went in my eye, it was like little needles hitting my face.

    Yowch!

Gnats in your eye and down your throat?--you sort of get used to that. Careful not to get sunscreen in your eye when you try to wipe out any bugs, it can really make your eye sting and water.

    You want gross??? Here's GROSS:
Last week I was riding along the highway shoulder. There was a rotting raccoon carcass covered with guts and flies in the middle of the road up ahead.
Just as I was approaching it, a giant truck flies by me and runs right over the raccoon again. Fur went whirling up in the wake wind of the truck.
I was hit all over, including face, with pieces of fur and God Knows What Else, all nice and warm from the hot sun and exhaust fumes. I just kept riding and tried not to think about it. Couldn't find anything suspicious plastered on me when I got home (you bet I took a hot shower though!).

    EEEEeeeeeewwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa---That's horrible! What are the chances of something like that happening? That was not a good day for you, but it was good you kept your wits about you.

A bug (gnat) in the eye hurts like a b@#$%. It's happened to me frequently. I've had them also fly into my ear and my mouth. We get swarms of them here.

ewwwww... both stories are gross (I think dead raccoon fur and guts ick me out way more), but bugs in the eye(s) and mouth are pretty sick, too!

sorry about your eyes, Aggie Ama- because I know it hurts like a... well, it hurts like death stabbing you in the eye. Not fun! We're extra super buggy lately, too, and I can feel your pain.

Although this isn't a cycling story, it's gross nevertheless.

Some years ago I used to commute nearly 30 miles into work. One day I was running really late so had the pedal to the metal in the car ( doing about 80 - 90mph). A bird flew into the windscreen and went splat. Now that is bad enough but it had obviously just had it's breakfast of...WORMS. Loads of worms. Big worms, little worms, medium sized worms and the force of the impact spread them all over my windscreen. Of course, that would be the day when the windscreen washer bottle ran out

By the time I got to work, the worms had all dried up onto the windscreen. What a job scraping them off with the ice-scraper. YUKKKKKK!!!

I think the part of the bugs that grossed me out was to find them still resting against my tear ducts!! And yes it was a pretty bad pain.

Lisa- Your story takes the awards though. This is the second time you have manage a thoroughly gross wildlife story, I still remember the dead frog when you were cleaning your bike. And then the vivid detail of your description, ick!

    Python- Ick!! ICK!! ICK!!

    I started one gross thread!

I had something hit me in the eyelid and I thought, "good, it didn't get my eye!" but it stayed irritated for ... days... weeks... and I realized that it was itching exactly like athlete's foot. Got some stuff to "kill fungus in sensitive places" ... much better! ... except it came back in a week. Took weeks of daily "eye make-up" (and I"m not a make-up wearer) before it finally stayed gone.

Not as bad as wormy birds, but when my brother was on his honeymoon he called and asked me to stop by his house (same town) and take out his garbage... I sawa this gross clump of noodles or rice or something... oops, except when I touched the bag they started moving around. Blleeccch!!! I jumped as far as the ceiling... He still owes me for those maggots

Geonz, I'd say he definately owes you big time!!!!!!

You know what I hate? When a live gnat lands on my uvula and dances around causing coughing and gagging for miles.

    Aggie, have you recovered?

Oh I hate the coughing. You know it isn't coming back up so it just still makes you hack.

My eyes are much better, thanks.

Around here, the coughing is not the problem...it's the spitting...particularly when it's me behind Silver while she's trying to spit that sucker out!
