best cycling shorts

As a new rider, I have to say that I'm a big fan of the Pearl Izumi Sugar Shorts. My first pair of shorts were the PI Microsensor shorts, and while I liked the feel of those better than other brands I tried on, I needed something with a little more padding.

I know that several women have said that too much padding actually increases discomfort, but I find that the extra padding helps while you're getting used to sitting on a saddle. Who knew that 2mm would make such a difference? (and why is it that it's cheaper? less wicking?)

Plus, I have short and chubby legs so having something with a shorter inseam helped reduce the "sausage" look (as well as made the tan line a little higher up so it doesn't look as weird when I wear regular shorts/skirts).

Well, I think it is pretty personal and you have to try them on, and just ride them to find out if you really like them.

That said, the PI's I have (don't even remember the model name) have lasted and lasted and lasted, so at least I can recommend them for quality. They were pricey, but they last.

I like Terry and Voler shorts.

If you have a bike shop you respect, go in and ask them to show you some shorts in your price range. It is amazing how different the different brands will feel!

If you find one you love, buy two pair. (just in case, and for back-up while you're washing one pair)

Thanks for all the info it was very helpful I just bought a pair of PI ultrasensors on the net for 65.00. Performand bike site had free shipping and 10% off yesterday.
