    homemade granola bars

    To disable ads, please log-in.

    Hey everyone-

The BF and I made granola bars last night that we just love. We got the recipe from Alton Brown's show Good Eats. Here's the link: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._31335,00.html

The only bummer is that it doesn't offer nutrition information.

They turn out to be very hearty and very tasty and would be great for those who are organicly minded. There's also a recipe for protein bars and brown rice crispy treats. Yummmmm....

    question

Did this recipe make "chewy" kind of bars, or "crumbly"...
my problem with home made bar recipes is that after i am supposed to let them "cool and cut them up" they become this hard crunchy stuff, thats tasty ,but certainly not bar form...

    thanks!

    pretty darn chewy

    Hi, Hannah!

The bars turned out to be very chewy. Not soggy chewy or granola bar in a box chewy, but densly chewy (if that makes sense). We ended up using an 8 by 8 dish to cool and shape them, which made them a bit thicker than we had hoped. Next time we're thinking of spreading them out on a cookie sheet or something.

When they first came out of the oven we really weren't sure if they would hold form, but we let them cool over night and cut them (which wasn't easy) the next morning. The held together nicely!

Good luck and let me know how yours turn out if you make them!

Attahced are nutrition facts for the recipe, according to www.nutritiondata.com, made with only apricots and ignoring the nutritional value of the vanilla. I *assumed* that it would be 16 bars per batch, but ya' never know.
