    Calling Seattle

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I have mentioned before that I'm helping my daughter move to Seattle.

I'll be there late next week and would like to meet any TE-er that happens by. Right now, I'm thinking a Thursday (June 28) night get-together at a coffee shop, or something similar (my family not caring for coffee much) for a quick meet-up would be fun. I'm not sure where daughter & BF & over-stressed cat are to be living, but Near the University is a good bet.

In addition to wanting to meet my fellow TE-ers and putting real faces to names, the Mother in me needs to give my baby (baby, right, she's fully adult & studying for an advanced degree) a safety net of friendly faces Just In Case.

If you're interested, let me know. I really do want to meet you. Details can be arranged.

Just an idea: up the road (north) a bit from the U is a really great bookstore/coffee shop with a pub downstairs. Free parking! They have tea and baked goodies, too. Ravenna Third Place Books on 65th and, umm, something... (psst, it's 20th)

    here we go:

This is one of my favorite bookstores, they sell new and used books, and their coffee shop area is cozy. Haven't tried the pub downstairs yet.

And they are open until 10 pm on Thursday night.

Ooohhh a bookstore, we're all over it! (This from a woman who had to buy a whole new suitcase on a trip just to get the books we bought home.)

    Sounds good.

    Anyone else wanna come?

When're you coming in? Are you flying? I'll be at work (ie the airport) until 8:30pm then will be free. Would love to meet you though

Well while you're in Seattle you HAVE to go to the Elliott Bay Bookstore.

I go to Seattle just to visit that bookstore!!!

And now you have me wondering "What am I doing next weekend....?"

I'm a newbie around TE, but I'd like to meet some people.

OK, the plan is for me to fly to Minneapolis on Sunday, rent a vehicle, fill it with Stuff, then drive from Minneapolis to Seattle with Daughter, her BF, and an overstressed cat. I'll be flying back to Lincoln Friday so that I can get back to work on Saturday. I'd like to meet some TE-ers while there, and introduce Daughter to a great bunch of people, in the tiny amount of time I have.

Daughter is moving to Seattle so she can work on an advanced degree, and be with BF. She's not the type to abuse a safety net, but, hey, I'm a mother, I want her to know people there.

So that's the plan. Ravenna Third Place Bookstore Thursday evening. I'm planning on it being fun.

General landmark: (for real directions, see the Ravenna Third Place Books site)

The northwestern "edge" of the UW is sort of 45th and 15th.

If you go north on 15th for 20 blocks, you'll find 65th. (bookstore is on 65th)
Turn right (east) on 65th and go 5 blocks.
    That gets you to 20th.
There is a traffic light at 65th and 20th. Turn left (north). At the first driveway turn right (east). That is the parking lot for the bookstore.

As teigyr has found out, I'm good for anything happening around 6 or 7 am. Night stuff is beyond my capability as a graveyard shift human though .

Sorry I can't come--it would be a great opportunity to put names to faces...

I am 95% sure I am moving to Seattle next May. It is my fav US city and I honestly wish I was done with school so that I could go out there sooner!

I will be there with bf August 18-21 and staying in Fremont/Green Lake area of town. I already know I want to live in Ballard, but the commute east is going to kill me if I do end up working in Bothell or Bellvue.
Not sure hoiw hectic things will be, but if anyone is around then as well, would be fun to meet up.

Oh yes, the commute to Bothell or Bellevue is horrendous from Ballard. It was bad enough when I lived in Ballard over 20 years ago, and it hasn't gotten any better.

    So, why Ballard?

no idea I just fell in love with the whole community when I was there. It is very similar to where I live now in Milwaukee, but instead of Scandinavian, there are a lot of Russians and Germans

Actually...I* would live anywhere north of the shippiong canal...but for some reason Ballard just stuck out.

We live in North Seattle, kind of near Ballard. We're also kind of near the Green Lake area (apparently we're kind of near lots of places). We'd love to meet you!
