An Emotional Ride

Hey salsa that happened to me a few weeks ago with a quail family. The babies were literally the size of cotton balls. I had never seen such small little guys. But they couldn't hop to the curb either. I ended up taking off my shoes so the clunking of the metal cleats wouldn't scare them and slowly walking over with a large rock that I could put up against the curb for them to use as a ramp. It must have worked because on my next pass they were gone.
But I was just like you, I couldn't stand to see the little guys get whacked or lose mom and dad! A few weeks ago I heard a story about how some IDIOT arssehole up here swerved at a mama duck as she was crossing the road with her babies. And the sad part... He hit and killed mama duck. So now her babies are left to fend for themselves. There is a special place in hell for that waste of skin that's all I can say!!
We do have quite a duck population up here, so hopefully another mama duck took in the orphans....

Awww, I love quails and thanks for helping the little guys.

The way they work together in flocks one keeping watch over the others is just amazing.

About the idiot in most places that's criminal and if you see someone do that please report it. Besides unimaginable cruelty towards an animal and an animal mom at that many sociopaths get their start on animals.

Imagine what this monster behind tons of steel could do to people.

It can be hard to find the right contact when you have an animal in urgent need of help. As cyclists we see wildlife more often than most people, even in urban areas. Good to have a number or numbers of local wildlife rescue org at hand.

They told me that if you find an injured bird to keep it in a quiet warm spot away from other animals. A box with a towel and source of gentle heat is best till you get expert care.

Good for you for doing the right thing!! If you hadn't, I'm sure it would have torn you up the rest of the ride/day/week. Oof.

Good for you for saving the bird. Who says animals/birds don't have feeling. Its so nice that you could reunite one of the babies.

The other night I was time trialing and I saw a turtle and I thought, would it be wrong to stop in the middle of my TT to help a turtle across the road? Thankfully, he was already to the side he wanted to go to.

Geoff and I were climbing hills with some friends the other day. I came to the top and there he was - his bike in the grass while he took took a turtle to its intended destination!
