I posted here a few times a couple of years ago but then life got in the way and I let my bike collect dust for a while. I'm trying to get back into riding all over again and thought I would check back in here.

My 2 biggest challanges are being slow as molasses and not having much time. With 2 little ones and a hasband that works a lot it is difficult to take off for hours at a time by myself but hopefully I will be able to work it in at least a couple times a week. I guess the slow part will improve as I solve the lack of time part.

    Welcome back!
Have you thought about putting your bike on a trainer while you need to be home with the kiddos? You can still get in some quality riding and it will help you build your legs again, but you will still be there for the kids. As you get faster/stronger, then you can move it outside. You will be able to ride faster so you can fit in a better ride in lesser time.
How old are the kids? Maybe put them in a trailer or have them ride along in a nice, car-free park area. Just a thought. Good luck and come hang out anytime.

    Cool new to board

Hi all- have been cycling now for about 6 weeks with my hubby, I am a runner who has found cycling for great cross training and really enjoying it. We are riding with a group from a local Trek bike store- longest ride so far 33 miles in about 1:48. Thinking about signing up for the MS 150 here in the fall.
a couple of observations so far-
1-running and cycling are NOT the same despite seeming to use the same muscles. I thought I was in really good shape and got my butt kicked the first ride at about the 10 mile mark.
2-I know you are not supposed to wear undies with the chamois shorts, but the two times I did not, I had the "issues" discussed on another thread, so I will continue to wear undies.
3- I respond much better to protein than carbs, (this has been discussed in multiple places here as well) and a tri buddy of mine is bringing me some things to try for during riding/running.

    thanks all-

Thanks all for the warm welcome

Xrayted, yes I do have a trainer and that's where the bike has been for the past month except for 3 outside rides. That gets pretty boring although I have recently found itrain.com which has cycling workouts you can download to your mp3 player and those have helped. I also have a few of the older spinervals but I haven't dug those out yet.

My girls are almost 5 but they are bicycle resistent LOL they are both refusing to learn how to ride so short slow rides with them are out until I can come up with a big enough bribe to lure them.

It is very motivating to come here and read. So thanks for letting me jump back in.

I'm in Westminster so I guess not too far from you. I was just reading on the Mid-Atlantic Forum where you mentioned the Civil War Century. I did the 25mile route 2 years ago and was hoping to do that or maybe even one of the longer routes this year.

    Life's like that sometimes, mom...
Glad it allowed you to find your way back here

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".
