    a visit to my LBS

Today I thought I'd visit one of the LBS just to browse the road bikes(Giant and Specialized). The gal there was pushing flar bar road bikes over drop bars. Of course her favorite(she has a Giant FCR 1W with bar ends). I think I like these bikes. I like the prices, all the benefits of a road bike except the drop bars. She wanted me to take them for a ride. I didn't, I knew if I did it'd be a 'done deal'.

If you liked the look of the bikes so much and they are in your price range, why on earth didn't you ride them?

Either you've found the bike of your dreams; or you'd discover you hate the damm bar ends because you have no control over the bike from there, or the geometry was awful for your body, or you hated the sound of the drive train, or the aluminum frame jounced you enough to make your teeth ache, or it was too heavy to lift up your front steps every day, or it smelled bad, or WHATEVER.

One way or the other, you'd have more knowlege!

You can't make a wise choice without RIDING SOME BIKES and gaining some KNOWLEGE.

I was so stupid when I bought my bike, I knew NOTHING compared to what I know now. Somehow I had gotten it into my little monkey brain that I wanted a Trek Pilot 1.2. Why did I want this bike? I liked the wheels. What an idiot. I had to change the front der to bar end friction and the components are not as high end as I'd like. It's not a bad ride but I don't think it's the "I knew it was the bike for me" bike.

Ohhh Zenn that sounds like ME!! I bought THREE, yes THREE bikes because I liked the way they looked, wheels were cool, etc...
Now I know that it doesn't matter how "sexy" it is if the dangnubitt thing doesn't FIT!!
My seduza is not the color scheme I would normally desire- balck/red vs. cutesy pink, but it fits like a glove! And when I'm on her I feel like I'm on a rocket.
Sigh... If only they made my rocket in pink or periwinkle blue...

Perhaps visit without your credit card or other source of payment so you *have* to think it over? Seriously, the other ladies are right - you have to ride lots of bikes to decide what works for you Try flat bars for yourself and try drops. You never know what will work for your style of riding....

ditto to all the above....go out an try those bikes. You will be educating yourself.

I have a Specialized Sirrus that I really liked before getting a road bike. I considered the Sirrus a straight bar road bike, my dh said it is a form of a hybrid, whatever. Anyway, I am setting up the Sirrus as my errand/commute bike.
