I was writing a thread asking why I Shouldn't go buy a road bike this weekend and one of the guys I work with said he had a Peugeot road bike sitting in his garage collecting dust did I want it?........well Yeah if it fit! Well it does!...The stand-over is a little high but the reach is great. I had it out in my jeans and t-neck and tennies and LOVED the ride. I wanted to ride it home and switch to more comfortable clothes and take it out NOW! I've already made an appt with my LBS to take it in and have them check it out. I'll switch out the seat, it needs new tape and clipless pedals/shoes of course! I'll also switch the brakes so the front is on the right (comes from riding motorcycles!). But I have a sweet steel road bike for $65! oh man - I don't wanna be here - I wanna be out screaming on the trails riding FAST! We weighed it and it comes in @ 20 lbs which after riding Baby would be like a feather to a tank!! Holy Carp - I'll need to learn it's name!!

I had a Peugeot road bike in the cough*70s*cough (God, I feel so old). I loved that thing! If your new-to-you bike has been sitting around for a while, be sure you go through it thoroughly (cable, brake pads, chain, tires, etc. etc.) Since you got it for such a steal, you can afford to throw a little love at it!

I have my brakes switched on all my bikes, too (left rear, right front). It started because my husband wanted his bike like that (motorcycle history), so I switched mine, too. I have gotten used to it that way, and actually I think it works better for me. I have better control and coordination on that side (I'm right handed), so I can modulate the front better with that hand. Be sure you warn anyone who rides your bikes, or they're in for an instant endo!

Is that considered heavy for a road bike btw??.....compared to Baby, he feels like nothing - I was surprised he weighed in at 20 coz I sure thought he was lighter. Having no basis for comparison - enquiring minds want to know!

PS: can you tell he's already let me know what sex he is........didn't want to go into the bike rack next to Baby with all her packs and lights and big tires. All I could think of was a young stallion trying to show off for the mare!

Here he is - not the greatest picture but it IS late at night and I really Should be in bed! But I couldn't sleep without trying to at least show him off! You can't tell from the pix but there's a label on the chain stay that says "made in France" and all the rest of the labels are in French. The shifters are on the stem which I"m not sure I'll like - but will keep them there until I can Really get him out and ride!!

Twenty pounds is good and light!!! Isn't it against the rules to race with anything under 15 lbs? You're only five pounds heavier than the pros!

Congratulations!!! It's like getting the best-ever Christmas present, isn't it? Obviously, the universe wants you to be a roadie!

I think my trick ti road bike comes in at 18lbs., so your Frenchie is right in there!

My front (only) brake on my fixed is on the right. The whole bike is set up like the scorchers from the turn of the last century, and that was the style of the time. I never have any trouble making the switch from scorcher to modern standard when I'm on my other bikes, tho. Guess I'm easy to train.

Congratulations on the new bike! It's a gorgeous color!! What a deal for $65, even if you do need to have some work done to it. 20 lbs is mightly light-wight. My brand-new Trek 1500 is 22 lbs. with my trunk rack, bottle cages and pedals added on. I'm sure you are going to love your new wheels!!
