Hi! I love these Sidis, but my knees did not. I wore them 40 minutes on the trainer and 1 1/2 hrs on the road, so they are like new, except for a tiny scratched spot on the sole of the right shoe on the toe area. Hi there - just out of curiosity, what size do you wear in regular shoes? I've read in some threads that Sidis run a little small. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any to try on so I'm not sure what size I would need. In looking at Sidi's web site, I think I'd need a 41. But just in case, I thought I'd find out what your normal size is! Thanks!!!

Hi! I wear a size 7 in ordinary shoes, 7.5 in most tennis type shoes, and in my Specialized "Torch" road shoes (that don't hurt my knees) I wear a size 39. I think it would be wise to try on a pair of Sidis somewhere to be sure! Tokie

Sorry Sara! I am looking into seeing if it is worthwhile to have shims put in to adjust the way the shoe is angled in the cleat and pedal. I like the Sidis better than the Specialized as far as the shoe part goes, they are really nice. The specialized do have a very roomy toe box, while still having a secure fitting heel, and some riders really like that. Good luck!

Good luck to you too, Tokie! I was really hoping I'd be able to break in my PI shoes but they are killing me. Major "hot spots" and tingling numb toes. My feet are super narrow so I have this funny feeling it's going to be expensive to find shoes that actually fit properly without buying them a size too small, which I think is the problem with the PIs. Guess I need to find a store that has Sidis in stock! I hope the shims do the trick for you! Or that you find someone to buy this pair!!!

sara, Sidis come in a narrow width (at least the men's do). You may not be able to find them instock just anywhere, so call around first.

How did the size 40 sidi's fit you? Were they too big or about right?

I'm about a half size bigger than you (measure a size 7.5), and I have a pair of Sidi mountain shoes in size 39 that are a very snug but wearable fit (no room to wiggle my toes though!), and a pair of cheap Shimano road shoes, also in size 39, that fit much larger and are actually a bit sloppy on me. I haven't tried on a 40 Sidi but it might be a good fit for me...

Hi Liza, sorry I haven't checked back here lately! I'm training for a team time trial! My team of 4 women has only practiced twice together, but we're planning to have fun! My size 40 sidis are a good fit with a bit of room at the toes. I think if I wore a 7.5 in street shoes, the 40 Sidis would be too short. In the past, I have just bitten the bullet and ordered a couple of pairs in the sizes I think I might wear, then sent back the ones that didn't. Once I even ordered 4 pair!(sent 3 back).If you send an e-mail link to a new team estrogen customer, they have a free shipping offer. You could call TE to confirm this. then the shoe shipping wouldn't be so painful! Good luck! What kind of knee pain were you getting from them? It could be that the cleats were just adjusted incorrectly and if you messed with that, they would be fine to ride in?

I wear a 8.5-9 and wear a 41.5 in the Sidi Genius. I have heard the half sizes are the same length but a little wider than the whole sizes.

Tokie, what kind of cleats and pedals do you use? Do you have the same cleats, set up in the same way, on both pairs of shoes? I've been told that cleat positioning is a fairly important component of bike fitting. If you'd like to try and make the shoes work for you, try getting help at your LBS, because adjusting the cleat position, or using a cleat with more float might fix your problem! Those blue G5's are beautiful, and they don't make that color anymore.

As far as sizing goes...

Sidi makes their own Brannock (foot measuring) device. If you measure your foot properly, it's incredibly accurate. That means wearing bike socks, heel right up against the back, and putting weight on the foot you're measuring so you see what size it really is when your arch collapses and the foot expands. A while back I had some questions about Sidi sizing, but I should have just trusted their Brannock, because the size it said was exactly the size I needed!

Call and ask local bike shops if they have the *Sidi* Brannock device. If you can't find one that does, use Sidi's shoe sizer. It's a PDF form that you print out, cut into two strips, and then use to measure your foot. I've uploaded it here.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the info on Sidis and cleats. I use speedplay X pedals, and have had sidis (and knee pain) for years, thought it was just my chondromalacia. I recently bought the Sidis and the Specialized shoes at the same time(I outgrew my old Sidis and needed 2 pair of shoes for a tour from Oregon to Wyoming coming up in June, in case my shoes break while we are riding through the boondocks) The LBS does a great job placing the cleats checking while you ride on a conputrainer, checking where the shoe hits your foot inside, etc. The Specialized shoes just hold my foot in a really good alignment which feels good and noticeably better all the way through my pedaling stroke.(my coach says Specialized has a built-in "varus wedge" which may be what makes these shoes feel so different) I noticed it right away the first time I took them on a ride. However, the Sidis are just nicer shoes. So when I get back from my trip, I may look into shimming them, or post them for sale again! Thanks again for all the info and the Sidi sizing chart! Tokie

You can buy a varus wedge for about $2 at a good shoe store.

Take the insole out of your shoe. The backing of the wedge peels off, and you stick it butted up to the inside edge in the toe-box directly to the shoe. (wide part against the big-toe side, tapering toward the 3rd toe.) Then put the insole back into the shoe.

Any shoe store that sells varus wedges should be able to tell you what thickness you need in your cycling shoes and will probably put them into your shoes for you if you ask.
