As Python has already said we pay double that (most of it is tax). I changed from a petrol to a diesel car as it uses a lot less fuel. I also try to cycle at least once a week. On our holiday to the States two years ago I couldn't get over the fact that petrol was half price.
Just for comparison, UK average petrol price GBP 4.00 a gallon, UK minimum wage GBP 5.35.
Oh, definitely! We have it good in the US. I travel to Denmark for work occasionally and once I did the coversion from kroner/liter to dollars/gallon and I think it came out in the neighborhood of $6 or so per gallon.
Plus Danes pay about 100% tax on new cars.

I drive a diesel..prices range from 2.93 to 3.09 at the various stations around. filled my almost empty truck 75.00. if i drive it sparingly, will last me 3 weeks to get back and forth to work..wish i could commute..

Gas in Denver: $3.04
Gas in Vail: $3.44
