    Hey all,
I have a friend moving to Portland. She has an 85 Nishiki road bike that for some reason or another she has become fond of. She needs to fix up the front and rear derailer (I think it is just the cables and the shifters taht need to be adjusted). So anyways can you guys point us to a bike shop that can help and has great service?

Um... which Portland? If you're talking about the one in Oregon,my fave is Rivercity Bicycles. Great service department and they offer wonderful how-to clinics. Plus they organize some very fun rides. I miss the bike-in rides. (Like a drive-in but on a bike! ) The Bike Gallery is great too. (I've only been to the one on Sandy Blvd. and the one downtown, though.) I haven't personally used the Gallery's service department but the Sandy Blvd. location is well recommended by many.

Depends on where you're from. I know SW pretty well, and my fave is The Bike Gallery, off Hall and Canyon.

Yep, between the Bike Gallery and River City I get most everything I need. Of course, besides all the goodies from Team Estrogen.

    No shop recommendations, but...

...just want to chime in that I used to have a Nishiki Road bike, either an '86 or an '87, can't remember which year. Navy blue and white. It was my first "real" road bike and catapulted me into the world of cycling. It was a great starter for me. I sortof regret selling it now, because I think now I could have salvaged the frame for conversion into a specialty bike (fixie or track), or just enjoyed it when I felt like going old school.

    Anyhooo, that's my $.02!

The Nishiki has been great for my friend. her first bike where she CANNOT sit on the seat and plant her feet squarely on the ground. I wish I could hlep her with it but I think I would do more harm than good. So thanks everyone for the suggestions, I will send them on to her.

I had a white Nishiki, late 70's. I loved that bike.

(it was "taken" from me. I hope the new "owner" loved it as much as I did)
