Cycling in Las Vegas Area

I was out in vegas recently and was simply AMAZED by the number of cyclists on the road to the Red Rock canyon scenic road. The shoulders/bike lanes seem very nice and wide and the roads are smoooooth. It would be a lovely dream to ride those roads, I think. Lots of people out cycling and doing long runs. Just be aware that you will want to start early because it will be HOT. We had a abit of a hot spell when I was out there and it got to over 95degrees (in late april!) and the heat is simply brutal. You can refill bottles, though, at the visitors center.

I ended up doing a 1/2 day supported Red Rock Scenic Loop tour with Las Vegas Cyclery / Escape Adventures.

I had a really great time and would definitely recommend them to anyone going out that way. They also do mountain bike tours.

The first 5 miles up were a bit of a workout, but the view from the top is worth it. There was plenty of downhill on the backside to make up for all the climbing.

How many people are usually in the day tour? Women too? All levels? Thanks. I checked out the tour company website recommended above.

I am so excited about going on vacation next month to Las Vegas! I have been researching both the Red Rock Casino & Resort or staying on the strip at the brand new Palazzo. It is the sister property to Venetian.

I rode my bike on the scenic ride around Red Rock Canyon at Christmas. It was very nice, though cool as far as temps go....

Sorry, haven't been on the boards in awhile (bad girl) to answer the question on the tour size.

When I went it was mid-May so with the high temps that was a very slow time for them. There were only two of us in the group ... myself and a woman from Australia. After speaking with the tour guide it sounds like they get all ages and just as many women as men.

The driver stays behind the slowest rider at all times and keeps nice cold water along in case your water bottle runs low. They also made sure to ask about my current bike and riding style so that they could match me with a comfortable ride. I would not be afraid to recommend them to anyone of average cycling ability.

A bit of background... Escape adventures/ LV Cyclery is an offshoot of Moab Cyclery, which also has a tour company out there.
They do a GREAT job of making sure that you have a good time. AND they are a VERY environmentally responsible company.
Nice, nice folks. The type of people you just want to hang out and chat with.
Sooo I would highly recommend them if you are in Vegas and want to see the natural side. - Or Moab of course!

Another vote for Red Rock Canyon! This photo I took of my boys is actually on the Nevada state bicycling map!!
