I am BAD with heat and when I was in a hot climate, I'd put ice in my camelbak. It helped lots by keeping my back cool

I'm the same way though, heat and I do not get along and on hills it seems like there is no cooling breeze. Probably due to the fact I'm not going that fast! It always seems like there isn't shade on hills either.

I don't know if drinking cold water is good for you (I am thinking not) but at the very least it would be nice to dump over your head!

Two weeks ago the 70 mile long ride was tuff! I felt those chills in the last 10-12miles or so, but just kept trying to drink, drink, drink! And I finished, but did not feel so hot.

Not to be gross, but my urine after that ride was really, really dark and just a tad painful. Checked it out with my doc and she said NO bladder infection. Whew! What a relief.

This past Saturday was our longest training ride at 80 miles. I was worried about the heat as it was approaching a high of 90 that day. I upped my intake of 50/50 water and gatorade that I keep in my bike bottle. I was so sick of that fluid by the end of the ride, but I know I needed it.

I also ate three bananas along the way; first stop, with lunch (PB&J) and one about 12 miles from finish. At that last stop I saw a bottle of Smart Water in the little store...cool water and with electrolites too!! I chugged that with the banana and finished strong! I felt great! (oh yeah, I eat cliff bars along the way too).

And to top it off, my urine was pale in color all day! Swwweeeeettt!!! LOL I finally hydrated properly!! Yippee!!!

It may sound silly, but I was so excited about not only finishing, but finishing strong and feeling good too! I really feel I have come so very far in the 16 weeks that I have been training with TNT.

This week is a short taper back ride at 50 miles. Thanks so much for y'alls help!
I just keep telling myself..."I am the Tortise; slow and steady finishes the race." I am the Tortise, coo coo ca choo.
