I haven't noticed any flex where the xtracycle joins the surly. I'll have to ask dh if he thinks there is any, but I don't think there is.

Can you ask him what he thinks of an aluminum bike frame with the Xtracycle? I was asking my LBS guys today, and they didn't think it was a good idea, that steel would be better.

I agree, steel is my favorite frame material, but the bike I have to make into an Xtracycle is aluminum.

I wrote to Xtracycle to see what they say.

(my other option could be switching the components from my 700c Dew to a 700c Surly or Soma frame or just buying a SECOND Kona Smoke for me.)

    I waaaaaaaant one.

Wrote to the Xtracycle guys, they said the Kona Dew would be fine as an Xtracycle. Aluminum is ok. I would just have to change the tires down from 38's to 35's or less.

    Ooooh, yeah....

From a discussion on MTBR Forum: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=321895

If I needed a new bike, I'd take this one for a test ride, but with xtra bikes in the garage, I'm thinking and xtracycle is also in my future. (Just don't tell DH - he thinks I'm on a bike diet)

    pant, pant, pant....

<got some serious bike lust going on!>

Which will be out for sale first, Kona or Surly?

I wouldn't kick either out of my garage!
(the pic is Surly's "Big Dummy" and the guy has it set up with monster huge tires. I've seen pics of the first prototype from Surly, and I thought the frame on that one was prettier.)

I've got both Kona and Surly bikes already, and have the warm-fuzzies for both; but I think I like the looks of Kona's Ute a bit more than Surly's Big Dummy.

BD is designed to be compatible with all the Xtracycle accessories. Does anyone know if the Ute will be compatible at all? Or if Kona will have the same range of goodies for the Ute as Xtracycle has?

Oh, I should stop... there isn't ROOM in my apt for another bike!!! Stop me now!
