Sounds like a hard decision.
Well, why not make a chart, and list everything you mentioned above.
Put a check next to each item, for each event, on if it's a pro or con.
Pick the race that has more pro's!
Good luck with either race.

Okay so I have a dilemma:
I'm signed up for (and have paid the $85 registration for) a duathlon (run, bike, run) near San Diego this weekend. It's not a race that I've had my heart set on or anything. I just wanted a race that weekend, and that's the one I happened to find. Well now there's a race locally, Splash N Dash (400m swim, 5k run).
I'm trying to figure out which race to do.
Pros of doing the San Diego Race:
* $85 in registration is not wasted
* They have a finishers medal!Yes, that's a consideration for me...
* I'm much more comfortable on my bike than I am in the water
* It's probably a lot more organized than the local event.
* Lots of time spent just me & DH.
Pros of doing the local race:
* Save $$ in gas, etc. This would be good, considering we've already totally blown our budget for the month.
* Not have to spent so much time driving this weekend.
* I'm not all that comfortable in the water, but it's only 400m. There's only one way I'm going to get comfortable in open water, and that's by swimming in it.
* My brother's FW is graduating on Saturday. If I do the local race, I can still make the celebratory lunch. Although a teppanyaki lunch won't help the budget problem.
* DH really wants to Autocross on Sunday, which isn't possible if we're in SD.
Other Considerations:
* For $25, I can transfer my San Diego registration to next year.
* The whole reason I was adamant about having a race somewhere next weekend, was because of the Tri club's Bare Belly Challenge. Which was basically to be good enough shape to run an organized event in just shorts & sports bra. Not sure how I can run an event in shorts & sports bra, if I'm swimming?
Catch all that?Thoughts?

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
KSH has good logical advice.
Or, you could try the coin toss method. Decide which is heads or tails, toss the coin, and pay attention to which one you wish for. Do that one.![]()

I'd hate to lose the money already spent on the SD event. Considering you've already totally blown your budget for the month can you afford/justify spending more money for the local race?
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...
