    Yes, Pooks, it's not far from our house to lots of wide open spaces, and the other direction, right into the city!

    I'm not sure it's exactly a habitat for the big birds, more a conservation center -- they heal injured birds and breed the endangered ones for release back into their native areas. Still, get out there in the desert and usually I see more than a couple of GROUSE. (without paying to get in and see the live-in birds, which is pretty cool too, but I haven't noticed a place to lock up my bike)

    Oh, I would give almost anything for scenery like that. Endless fields of dirt and the occassional sight of road kill in farm country isn't the prettiest (or sweetest smelling) of routes. Those mountains are indeed lovely.

    The only thing I remember about Lubbock is that there is a huge statue of Buddy Holly.

    My favorite of all terrain is rolling hills and lightly traveled roads going through farmland.
