Started training for my first triathlon

The triathlon is August 19th in Arkansas. The weather will be very hot so I am certain I will not need a wetsuit. I think I will just wear a trisuit the entire time.

What I want to know from everyone is your best transition strategy. I am thinking this will be my area I will need the most training in since I do not do well under pressure.

Also, any other training tips you can give would be helpful.

First off, congrats on signing up for your first tri. www.beginnertriathlete.com has some really user friendly training plans. Check to water temperature for the swim, even if the weather is hot, the water isn't necessarily. It's about 100 degrees here in July, but the lakes are only about 65 - 70. Since it's your first tri, don't stress too much about performance. Follow a training plan, get there in enough time to familiarize yourself with the course. Practice transitions, then if you are distracted at the race, you won't forget something important (helmet, hat, sunscreen or gels.) Since your tri will be hot, keep hydrated, I always have to remind myself on the bike to drink. Have fun and Good luck.

I do a transition practice workout that consists of putting on my swim cap etc, start my watch, run to my bike, do my transition, ride around the block a couple of times at sprint speed, transtion to run and run around the block for about 5 min. I do this about 3 or 4 times over in one workout.

Think about how you can best lay out your clothes to minimize your transition time and DH and I really like elastic laces. It also helps to have a number belt.

Thanks for the tips! I guess the best tip is practice.
