When you figure out how to get your bike to do 20+ with little or no effort on your part, let me know! I'll buy that bike too!Originally Posted by cyclingnewbie

My very first ride on a road bike was a success! I didn't fall, no flats. I did drop my water bottle though, and I saw two huge white swans, of all things! I talked to some people on the path who admired and praised the new ride, which was kinda fun. The wind out of the south was ugly, as usual. After my ride I went back to the bike shop. The crank was hitting the edge of the front derailleur when the chain was on the large ring and, I had them rotate the bars up a touch to bring the hoods up a little. It feels better to me that way. Unfortunately, the bike doesn't automatically go twenty miles per hour with little or no effort from me, but maybe that was expecting too much?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
Congrats on your first rode ride. Between you, Melody and I forget the name of the person who posted her first rode ride, you are all the light at the end of the winter tunnel.
ah, congratulations!! Yesterday we woke to a skiff of snow. Today it's 3 inches and still falling. It's alright. we have a lot of things to accomplish in our house before we spend all of our free time riding. At least good weather is not tempting us away from the work. Besides, this happens every year, we should not be surprised!! We always have trails that are almost ready on one end of town - some riders already riding them despite the mud that I think is too damaging - and then we get cold weather and snow for a spell. It will pass. then it will be spring.
Here's what I do to help me get through it:

Happy riding to all you folks with a longer season!!
Namaste,

I wondered why my new (this year!) road bike didn't do that either! All these years on an old heavy frame, and I thought I would be Wonder Woman when I finally got a new bike. Ah well, I guess it's like Lance says, "It's not about the bike."Originally Posted by cyclingnewbie
