229 - Sounds like your signal transmission went off.

I am often "dead" - either with cardiac arrest (HR=0) or atrial fibrillation (HR=223) on my polar.....

Sometimes "just because", or because my strips aren't soaked properly, or because I am cycling along a train line.

Those high reading usually are related to contact. If the HRM is moving around a bit it will read the electrical signals resulting from movement on your skin and will give a false high reading. See what you can do to improve contact and keep it from moving around.

yeah - mine will sometimes get strange readings around electric or invisible fences and down near the grocery store- I think its probably the cart retention sysem (works like an invisible fence and brings a "boot" down on one of the cart wheels if you take it outside the store property. It will read out 220 while I am standing still....
Some things make it lose the signal too - under certain powerlines seem to make it cut out.

Went out on a group ride but forgot to reset my computer so. the max heart rate still reads 229... My avg heart rate is still on the high side... all other reading seems to be okay and reasonable. I wonder about the HRM. I do ride by a power plant and I see those cross country transmission lines..

My computer in the past said that I've flat lined bp=0 but never gave me a ridiculously high reading. I've also had erratic reading as Wahine says. but this HRM seems to be pretty steady and hasn't twitched. Atleast when I was looking at it. Oh well

Thought the ride was supposed to have been 25 or so "junk" mile. The group had a change of heart and decided to do some hill work almost the same hills I did yesterday!!! Well it was a good work out. And a fun day.
