The reason why I track my miles is to gauge my own improvement over the years. It's really gratifying to look back at my journal and see how much stronger and faster I've gotten over the past few years, and to see how routes that were very challenging for me a year or two ago are less so now.

There will always be someone who has ridden more miles, climbed more hills, and done it faster. People like that are great motivators, it's fun to see how much individuals can achieve (and wonder "how the heck they can do that?") but don't let others' achievements detract from your own.

Look at how far you've come, after your injury and all, that's the important thing.

yeeks, I'm being entirely too preachy here.
Awe, thanks, jobob! I was joking about being depressed too. I am thankful that I'm even able to cycle at all. I ride because I love it and tracking the miles since my wreck has been a motivation to me. And all of you ladies are a great source of inspiration to me! I'm currently wanting to get faster and am trying out the theory that more miles will help me do that.

I think of looking at the rankings is all in good fun and if it helps us all achive our goals then it's all good.

Finally, someone said in jest to me when I was still just lusting after my Madone that I couldn't have a bike that cost more than the total number of miles that I'd ride in a year. (at that point is cost more than the total number of miles that I'd ever ridden.) So at this point, I'm just trying to earn my bike.

oh noooooooooooo....please say it isn't so!!!!!!!! Just how the heck am I ever going to justify that fantasy Seven?!?!?!?!?!

Y'all have got me tracking miles this year...never did it before. It is fun in an odd sort of bean counting way. I did wave at you Silver as you whipped by me in the TE listing, but you were moving really fast and I was just plodding along.

1000 miles in a month?!!?!? Whew! I stand in awe Geonz.

Happy May! And as for the miles... I think I'm done with the serious distances for a while. Though I did do 1200+ the first three months of the year...

Welp, I talked to my brother yesterday... some time this month or in very early June, he will be taking custody of... my car. I'll have enough money to buy one if I want to (I offered to take his 300,000 mile HOnda as a trade-in 'cause it's basically all the car I'd need but he has other plans for it) but I'm going to see how long I can go car-free.
It's ironic but it will probably be *harder* in the summer than winter, since summer is when I would be inclined to travel to a bike ride somewhere.
It's all about the Gore-Tex :-) And we'll see about the thing I just ordered from Steep and Cheap...

I think that's Deanna, who I hope to see at the WCC registration on Friday evening.

The rest of your questions, welp, can't help you out there.

You don't have anything to worry about!!

I have questions too....how come geonz is ahead of you on the stats/club standings and her miles don't match? Still trying to figure out how this thing works.

What's your weather like in the winter and fall?

    Hey Silver,

In regards to why Geonz is ahead, someone posted a message above about it. I think it's because you can log your km's with any of the groups you're signed up to on bike journal.

I think Geonz will always be ahead of us!!!

Perth weather-at the moment we're into our fall and the temps haven't been too bad. I mean what Canuck would complain about morning/overnight temps in the fall of 6c & a daytime temp of about 23c? The rain has pretty much stayed away whilst i'm biking but i still ride..without my glasses. It's a good thing i don't have to ride in traffic on the way home.

Summer wasn't too bad-We had a couple of weeks where the temps stayed in the 40C range but other than that it was bearable.

"winter'" Is coming and we're about to order some items from Ground Effect..ahhhh..

Also, winter is not winter here in WA..it doesn't snow.. Mountain biking is so much easier in the winter in WA..it's not 35C!!!

Enough about our lovely weather..what about summer in your area in Indiana? (do i have the right state ?)

    C
