I just bought a Specialized Allez, not top of the line but I really like it, I just wish the color was purtier, I may have to have it repainted or something.

It was all I could afford and since I am just starting to ride/do tri's it will work for now.

I am having troubles with it changing gears tho, when I am in the first 7 it slips when I change, it just started happening, I need to get it to the shop since I have only had it about a month or so.

my dolce elite was/is a nightmare with shifting! it started... just like you.. about a month after i had it.. took it in.. worked fine a few days.. then same problem..

it also drops off the smallest gear... A LOT! very frustrating when i'm dropping cuz i'm climbing a hill... sometimes it will go back on if i shift up.. sometimes i have to stop.. grrrr..

i finally resorted to new, better cables... it worked like butter for a while (but still dropped off)... but now it's back to wanting to grind...

oh.. it also used to hop (skip?) gears.. for no reason.. but that seems to be fixed with the new cables...

i've been told that specialized has some issues with their.. is it the crank? (the 3 front gear thingys?)

i've only had it about 8 months and i'm ready for a new bike that works smoothly!

I have a '04 Specialized Roubaix Elite, and I was wondering what you were talking about with the crankset. I have a triple with STI shifters and Ultegra derailleurs. Are you guys talking about the shifters or the actual front and rear cogs? I seem to be having a lot of shifting issues. Hubby has adjusted my derailluers multiple times but I still seem to have issues shifting between the rings in the front (mainly from the little ring up to the middle ring and the big ring down to the middle... it will skip right down to the little ring.)

A BIG Thank You - I'm NOT Nuts!

Mine isn't a Specialized but I've had problems with shifting also and no one can seem to find the problem. Or they DO find the problem, fix it and it works Great for about 1-3 days then it starts up again. I've just learned to live with it and believe it or not, figured out how to feather rapid-shifters!
My issue is between gears 3-5 on the cassette. The chain just does Not want to go into those gears easily. It either grinds until I feather the shifter or it grinds and Clunks (drops) into the gear. Sometimes it drops so hard I can feel it in the frame. The first time I took it back I was told the derailluer was bent so they straightened it and it worked Perfect for a few days. Then it started again. When I took it back a second time, they found a derailleur screw loose and tightened it and it worked Great again - for about 24 hrs. The third time they actually brought the mechanic out (their best they said) and he said the problem was the handlebar shifters so I switched out to rapid-fire which I love!! The first week I rode with the rapid-fire it was great, then it started again. It doesn't matter if I'm shifting on load or not - I can be flying downhill and shifting in anticipation of the upcoming stopsign and have to feather the shifters coz its grinding or I get the "grind and drop". I've asked my LBS if the cogs could be bent but they keep telling me no. So I've just stopped asking and stopped taking it in....I don't want to be without my bike for very long and I've learned how to compensate for it. But thank you for letting me know it isn't "just me"!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
