It has been so cold here, especially in the mornings. Hats off to you!
I've been using the cold and the dark as my excuse for not riding in...thanks for blowing that excuse![]()

"The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community." -- Ann Strong, Minneapolis Tribune, 1895
So... when are you going to do it again ?
It really does get easier, pretty quickly, especially as you get to know yourself and your bike and your route and the drivers' habits... and of course you get stronger and healthier.
Geonz, possibly Friday. It will depend on the weather, muscle soreness and saddle soreness. Or I might take the bus one way on Friday.
My goal is to do 2x/week regularly and work up to 3x/week. That's pretty much the most I can do because of other commitments and needing to run and swim also.

"Keep plugging along. The finish line is getting closer with every step. When you see it, you won't remember that you are hurting, that anything has gone wrong, or just how slow or fast you are.
You will just know that you are going to finish and that was what you set out to do."
-- Michael Pate, "When Big Boys Tri"

Wow! good report OFTG- makes my downhill 8min commute seem pretty pathetic- heck I don't even know if I am awake when I first head out- though the wind in my face- should be a clue I guessgood thing my ride is just through a preetty quiet neighbourhood.
Keep up the good work!
(I fell off the wagon this week- things in town before and after work but will be right back at it! I was amazed at how simple it was for me- ( so close, can wear normal clothes etc etc- so I blew all my excuses out the window!![]()

Congratulations on making the start!! The first ride is mind over matter and from then on it's a breeze. You begin to wonder why you didn't do it ages ago.
Rode every day last week and all bar one this week. Rode twice to work yesterday (work commitment after normal hours) and wasn't that keen on night riding. Found the bikeway and pipe barriers almost impossible to see. It was just as well I was familiar with the terrain. I think some kind of white markings along the way would be very helpful. I did have lights, but perhaps there are better ones available.
A work colleague has put the hard word on her husband and it looks like I may have started a trend. They are going to a lbs to look for a bike for her. See....it's infectious!!!
I love my rides. The morning is quite peaceful if I leave at the right time, but the return trip is busier and I am riding in backstreets and tracks to avoid the end of day rush. I use different and longer routes to go home, as my trip to work is only 2.5km and I would like improve my fitness for future longer rides.
Keep up the good work!
Welcome to the wonderful world of commuting!! Ain't it great!!On my way in I noticed the price of gasoline shot up to 279/gallon. BIG smile! May you enjoy commuting as much as I do. I can only image one better way to start my day
