Sending lots of warm vibes! We managed to ride through January with day time highs of only 40 but then we didn't have any ice to deal with.

Here in snowy Massachusetts the temps. are supposed to hit 40 degree's tomorrow which is a real warm-up since we have been living in the teens and twenties. So, my son and I may take that leap of faith and ride. Our goal is 20 miles but here's hoping we can do moreAlso, don't forget Cyclism Sunday starts this weekend...

Hey massbikebabe, don't read the forcast for the next week. Anyway the boston bike show is next weekend if you need a fix.
Yup, it was actually biking weather today in northeast Massachusetts! I kept thinking it was too cold - it was in the low 30s when I headed out - but I finally convinced myself that 32 degrees and sunshine was enough to lure me and my bike out on the road. I wasn't in the mood to trash my bike today, so I stayed on the main road (route 125, because it was dry) that goes by my townhouse and did an out and back and out and back ride - my odd way of doing a loop by staying on one road! Anyway, I'm really glad that I got out there today. It was nice riding on a dry road and looking off to the side into the still totally snow-covered wooded areas!
Here's hoping that I can repeat my ride tomorrow. The forecast calls for a 50% chance of snow showers tomorrow, and it also sounds like we may get hit with a big storm again Monday into Tuesday. Say it isn't so!
Here's to more and more days that are suited to wandering on our bikes!

Tomorrow promises to be better. 58 is predicted! It won't get there, but anything over 50 would be incredible! I am so stoked! Rode today, will ride tomorrow, and not have to loaded down with layers and layers of clothing.
I will be hoping all of you out east escape more snow and cold! It's time to ride!

Well, we never did get out there this weekendMy little guy seems to have picked up the bronchitis I finally got rid of...now we are just passin it around!! I am psyched for the Boston Bike Show this weekend, just printed out my discount coupons. I am not psyched for the snow we are supposed to get all this week
WHEN WILL IT END???? I think I am going to move out to Nevada with my little brother!!
karen
Don't move to Nevada! You will not like riding in 115 degrees. My goal was to get out March 5th, but it didn't happen. There's too much sand on the road for me to take my road bike out and my mountain bike is just too heavy to have fun with on the road. I started cross country skiing again and have found that this is the best substitute for cycling through the winter, since we live in Massachusetts. I've met tons of cyclists on the trails. I do spin classes and weight lifting, but nothing beats being outside. My husband and I ski with our cycling friends and we've done some nice weekend trips in the last 6 weeks. If I get out by March 20th, I'll be happy. Thought about taking my mountain bike out on the road after work today, but I need a rest; climbing up hills on those long skinny skies is work!
See you at the bike show this weekend (if the snow doesn't cancel it). When are you going?

Robyn:
I think we are planning on Saturday right now, but my husband is on-call
on Friday till Saturday at noon. If he is up all night we may go late Saturday
or Sunday. I hope the snow does NOT cancel the show...that would be like the first sign of the apocolypse for me...this winter is really getting to me!!
I used to x country ski, but haven't because of a bum back and a bad left leg
as a result. So, I have been stuck in the house all winter and it SUCKS!

I'm going to the show Friday night to get all the good stuff before you guys show up!Hubby and I printed out our tickets and his birthday is today so dinner and the show on Friday night. Snow be damned. I HATE the stuff at this point. Hey Robyn, do you ride the Nashua river rail trail up the street from you in Ayer? You can x country ski it too. Its one of my favorite trails.
I think I am going to the show on Friday night, too. Too much going on during the day on Sat./Sunday (last weekend for X country skiing, probably). I have never ridden on the rail trail, but I have walked on it. I generally don't like rail trails unless it is off season or early in the morning. Too many kids, roller bladers, potential for accidents. My husband and I thought we might get up really early on a Sat. and ride to the start of the trail (up those hills in Harvard) which is about 8 miles, do the trail, and ride back home. It would be about 40 miles. It does go through some nice areas. I did a ride with the AMC last fall that started in Hollis, NH and went by some of the places the trail accesses. All of us MA people should ride together! We seem to live within a reasonable distance of each other. In April, my husband and I are going to a class to be certified as trip leaders for the AMC. You guys should come on our rides! It's low key and social.
Sounds good to me. If the freakin snow would ever go away. Friday looks like snow again, so the bike show might be out. Have to wait and see.
The rail trail is great, but I tend to drop my kids at school and do it first thing in the morning and only on week days since they tend to be to crowded on the weekends.
Yeah some of those hills in Harvard are brutal but if you go the back roads in the spring at least you get to go through all the pretty apple orchards in bloom.
Those brutal hills are just out my back door. I live about 1.5 miles from the town line of Harvard. We finally decided not to move closer to the city, because we already live where everyone else comes to ride!
