No lube in Florida?

My brother just bought a new Schwinn and a trailer so he can bike with my nephews. I asked him what he was using on the chain and he said he was told not to use lube because of all the sand in Florida.

Any Florida TE'ers out there in the Orlando/Sanford area with knowledge or an opinion on this...?

I haven't lived in Florida, but did live on the beach of NC. You definitely DO need lube, but you want to use a dry/shedding lube assuming you're riding in dry conditions. I found that white lightning worked well for me in sandy conditions (I actually still use it, but I rarely ride in the rain which is where it doesn't do so great).

No lube is a recipe for a rusted chain, IMO.

A wax-based lube won't attract the sand like a wet lube will. No lube = squeaky chain and poor performance. Also, the chain and components will not wear well.

definitaly need lube! just need to use dry lube.

I do live in Orlando and yes, in fact, you DO need lube!!! White lightening is a good lube for dirt not to get on the chain or any other wax-based lube. Also, Florida is not as sandy as it may seem (unless your on the beach) . You need the lube to keep the chain moving well and help the life of the chain last longer. If no lube, bad things occur!

That's what I was planning to explain to him, but was curious if any other Floridians had heard anything like what he'd been told.

I've used White Lightning in dusty conditions here in the mid-Atlantic and wasn't too thrilled with it. I think I'm gonna send him a bottle of Rock'n'Roll Absolute Dry.
