    tapering? what's that

So I'm supossed to be tapering for my first duathlon of the year on April 15. This week is supossed to be a few short but hard intensity workouts, with next week being a few short, low intensity workouts with brief pickups thrown in.

So far, the "short" workouts this week haven't gone as planned. Sunday was exactly what I wanted - 16mi bike with 1 mile run, both uptempo (HR high zone 3 to low zone 4).

Monday was going to be a recovery ride with a few friends - 20miles. Well, I got to the group ride and a mixture of people showed up - some fast, some not so fast. The group got split into 3 at a left hand turn, and I came out in the second group (3 of us, the other 2 quite fast). I was feeling good and came out at 18mph and the one guy came around me and went just a little in front. I just kept minding my own business when I realized that the girl was on my wheel, and he was going to pull us up to the other group. So off we went, at 25mph. Then when we reached the other group, a paceline formed - good bye. (I know, definately NOT recovery ). I did behave myself and pull out about 1/3 into the ride and wait on the slower group (even though they were begging me to stay, offering to slow it down a few mph even - yeah, going from 21 to 18 when I was planning on 14 is not what I needed). It was hard to leave them, though, since it was a blast and there was a VERY cute guy in there (and I have a "biking date" with him Thursday if I'm not dead post-call).

Then today I was doing an easy 4mi run, legs felt great, and ended up a little faster than expected (this after swimming 1000y this am).

I just hope I can contain myself for the next week and a half and have this good of legs Sunday (If I don't blow them beforehand, especially since I'm already jumping out of my skin at the hospital ).

Really, it's all about the cute boy. Who cares if you blow your taper. What's the worst thing that could happen. So what if you don't do so well at the Du. Is anybody paying you to race? On the other hand...

Cute boy means potential life altering events.

Winning the du, not likely life altering.

Don't worry - I'll be there Thursday if at all possible (ie, able to stay awake for that time period ). I think it's a good sign that he waited around after his group got back (and they were gone before I got back to my car), and then we talked for 20min.

As far as the taper goes, I'm going to say screw it (to a point), meaning the last few days before the duathlon (hmmm, say Thursday on), I WILL behave myself. I'll keep you gals updated

    YEA! Do tell.

Sorry I haven't been around here for a little while - life gets in the way. Anyways, the weather turned to crap (of course it's nice when I'm stuck inside working - but that's normal). So the rides ended up canceled, so no biking date. Hopefully it will happen soon!
