Poor DH. I've been doing pretty well in the kitchen these days, but dinner tonight wasn't very good. I feel bad for him.

Only solution - chocolate (sweetened with beet sugar of course).

Time for a shower and tandem mala on the mat. (thank you for the mardis gras beads, beth!)

    Hugs & butterflies,

I know we've created a 4th drift (ladies! you're like herding cats!) but I think I'll just continue to do what I do, drifting entire threads here and there by pointing out strange and/or troubling factoids.

    ...but not too strange.

    ...and not too troubling.

Back from the store and have happily stashed my chocolate supply.
On the way home I saw this bright red, really sporty sports car convertable being driven by a georgous blond...who was picking her nose!
Ewww...what makes people think that just because they have climbed into the driver's seat and shut the door that they are completely invisable to the rest of us?
If you can read this, take a pull.

That last post took away any budding desire I had for chocolate.

I suppose I should thank you?

How about simnel cake then instead of the chocolate? Or is that just a British thing?
I really ought to make mine tonight.

The word "cake" caught my eye. Please, please share the recipe.

Thanks for the laugh! If I were bold, I would have blown the horn. Heh.

OK... enough off topic nonsense... I have read and read and no-one has answered this question which was about page 3-4...

Are guinea pigs pigs, or are they fluffy rats??? Don't make me google this!

And... I had rice for tea, just rice and I desparately want toast but I am not eating bread at the moment

    They are flufffy rats.

And they were raised indoors (in Incan times in Peru) as a food staple. I saw a neat show on TV where the archaeologists were talking about how some parts of houses in Incan architecture were designed with guinea pigs in mind. (like with double doors so the piggies couldn't get out) The archaeologists also sampled the current methods of cooking guinea pig.... I'll never get the image out of my head of this one chickie in her fancy mountaineering clothes, munchin' on a guinea pig and exclaiming over how tasty it was.

Guinea pigs are not much like rats. They are more like little goats. they bleat at you when they see you and when they are hungry. Their babies are born ready to run, with all their hair and quite large too. It seems to me they are pregnant for about 3 months; which is epic compared to a rat.
They are also fragile, you can't drop one and expect it to land well.
They are, however, rodents, they have the front teeth that grow all the time like other rodents.
They come in all sorts of colors, and have great hair, but I am not sure that they have much personality.

My youngest boy is in Kindergarten and his teacher has Guinea pigs in the classroom for the kids. They are so cute and Mimi is right when they have babies they come out looking just like mum or dad but smaller.
