I like my Michelin Pro2 Race tires.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

Don't race, so can't help with a tire selection there. However, for a good training tire I would recommend Maxxis Detonators - I have found them very durable and reliable and I ride on rough rural roads, so they get a pretty good workout (as do I)
They are also not very expensive
Racing tires are usually expensive... Adding "racing" to any item usually makes it more expensive (often because it's suppoed to be lighter and more reliable).
My club is sponsored by Schwalbe and we get their Stelvio racing tires for less than what they sell for in stores. I haven't had them for long but so far I like them... Even at regular price, I think they are a little less expensive than the Vittoria Rubino Pro and the Michelin Tires, too.
